Macross Frontier Episode 11 - Neko Nikki

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Ranka / Megumi Nakajima’s song Neko Nikki, previously played in episode 9, now gets a focus on episode 11 as its ending theme. I didn’t find the song notable until I heard how it was used in this episode. The flow from Ranka’s scene and the green monster to the song went pretty well.

Here’s a short sample taken from the previously leaked (disclaimer: not here!) Neko Nikki:

She sounds very much like the younger Maaya (more…)

As a background, the makers of this album come from Maayas.net of which I am also a member. They’ve been cooking up these covers for what, about 3 years now? Recently, they made a full release and are sharing it all over the net.

I love that tiny bit of blrrrrrr ing in Poketto o Kara ni Shite! If I’m not mistaken, that kind of vocalization is used in warm-ups before the actual singing… right?

Go ahead and listen to some of my favorites from their set:

Macross F Unreleased Tracks Part 1

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

This week there was no new episode to dig music from *boo*, so let’s just entertain ourselves with old unreleased stuff. These three are three select songs that I thought would have made it to the OST 1, but they didn’t. They were very notable songs played on the first few episodes of the animation, and ironically, we get an OST 1 with music we haven’t even heard of before. Perhaps they couldn’t fit in too many background music because space had to be given to the vocal music.

First of all, thanks to Yyrkoon for providing these :)

Next Episode BGM:

Opening Theme:

Vajra Attacks:

Well this week we have an episode, but if it airs a song that we all know, I’ll make another set of these unreleased stuff. Next week we won’t have an episode again, but there’s a Ranka’s debut single to busy ourselves with :)

Megumi Nakajima = Ranka Lee Live at Formo…Not! Report (updated)

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Megumi Nakajima performed a mini-concert entitled “Megumi Nakajima = Ranka Lee Live at Formo… Not! It’s really at Venus Fort” at the Venus Fort today at 3:30pm. Her set list includes the songs Ai Oboete Imasu Ka (Do You Remember Love), What ’bout My Star, Neko Nikki (Cat Diary) and Seikan Hikou (Interstellar Flight).

Just like the May’n mini live concert, this performance also gathered a crowd of 1000 fans.

And yeah. She did the Seikan Hikou Ranka Dance. Did anyone video this?
