Don’t Be Late Violin Fan Cover

Monday, January 7th, 2008

This has to be the second time this fan is featured in this blog for a violin cover. This time, he covers “Sagittarius, 9pm, Don’t be Late” from the first episode of Macross Frontier. If you’ve heard the song, there’s a noticeable flat (a note shift) in the refrain which gets amplified in this cover. It’s possibly the first time I heard Kanno pull of something like this.

For those who missed his cover of Sousei no Aquarion, here it is again:

Yoko Kanno at 2-Channel’s Top 300

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

First of all, Happy New Year!

2-chan has previously made a top 100 countdown of the top anime songs based on user votes, and Kanno got ten songs in that list. Now we are given their top 300 anime songs, which ended on December 16, 2007. Kanno gets the following songs in the list, to the left of the song title is the rank, and at the right is the number of votes:

293 - Mameshiba (60)
291 - Toki no Kioku (61)
151 - Ai no Rinkaku (117)
108 - The Real Folk Blues (136)
102 - Genesis of Aquarion (146)
72 - Rise (191)
71 - Go Tight (192)
59 - Yakusoku wa Iranai (209)
50 - Kiseki no umi (241)
44 - Tank! (246)
33 - Inner Universe (288)
29 - Tsuki no Mayu (314)
14 - Hemisphere (374)
9 - Tune the rainbow (462)
5 - Platina (567)
2 - Sousei no Aquarion (926)

Once again, Evangelion’s theme song made the top spot with almost double the votes for Sousei no Aquarion. On a personal note, Ai no Rinkaku is too low in this one. I’m also a bit surprised that Mameshiba and Toki no Kioku even made it to the countdown!

Kanno had a good showing with 11 songs on the top 100 spot. In the previous poll, she had only ten, but now Go Tight! is already at the top 100.

I just want to note that on rank 232 is Alladin’s A Whole New World. This poll includes not just Japanese animations :)

Here are videoe that have all the music from the poll: (more…)
