Sheryl Nome: The New Macross Idol

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

The video below has the final cut of “Don’t Be Late”, which is very much different in the rhythms section to the one that we hear in the Macross CM.

Spoilers, don’t continue if you haven’t watched yet.

It’s too early to judge her character so early in the series, but I beg to differ that she’s such a b!tch. She refuses to cancel an interview even when she’s tired, and that’s an evidence of diligence. And she didn’t even look like she wanted to leave the stage when she was asked to evacuate. The reason she thought that Alto was rash was because Alto barely knew the situation and already called her inconsiderate to her fans. We’ll see if she is really kind after a few episodes.

(Oh, don’t let your imagination run wild, she’s just wearing a holographic full body suit. That tube is not going to fall off.)

Do You Remember Love: Yoko Kanno Arrangement

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

Here is Kanno’s version of Ai Oboete Imasu Ka (Do You Remember Love) from Macross: Do You Remember Love?. For some reason, I have already heard that synth at the bridge part in another Kanno OST. Was it in Ghost in the Shell: SAC? It’s bothering me. No, I remember, it’s in “Neko no Kimochi” from Escaflowne.

The music is good I’m telling you. Watch now! The credits to the music again, has only Yoko Kanno. She also got to rearrange “Do You Remember Love” from the original Macross series! For those who are not familiar with the song:

What a cliffhanger! And we’re going to wait for April to watch the next episode? Here’s the trailer to episode 2:

Musico Covers Yoko Kanno Part 2

Friday, December 21st, 2007

The previous Musico cover had instrumental techno versions of Sousei no Aquarion and Platina, this time, Musico makes a cover of 3 more Kanno songs, all with vocals. They are Genesis of Aquarion by Florence, Hemisphere by Maki, and Tank! by Baketsushitto (Buckets Sheet?).

Listen to the songs in the Official Musico Website. The other tracks covered and the artists are also listed in that website.

In my opinion, the quality of these remixes are good, and so are the vocalists. They sure looked for people who could sing.

Mina Kubota: Post-Yoko Kanno?

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

I have no idea what the “Post” prefix means in musical terms. Post-rock doesn’t sound too much like rock afterall. Now we have an artist who, according to CDJapan/Neowing, has been dubbed “Post-Yoko Kanno” or the “female Ryuichi Sakamoto/Joe Hisaishi”. Her name is Mina Kubota. I have no idea why she has to be named as the female version of Sakamoto and Hisaishi, unless it shows in her music. Maybe calling her “Post-Yoko Kanno” is just a marketing move. Well I’m sure writing about it :P

To listen to her music, here are a few sites that have samples of her work:

Last FM
Imeem - Sora no Theme
Imeem - Ready for the Challenge
Imeem - Romeo and Juliet

It’s not any of the stuff that made Kanno stand out from the rest, but it’s still good stuff :)
