Online Store Purchases Counted in Oricon Charts

CDJapan has always been my primary online ordering source for Kanno CDs, and was saddened before to hear that Oricon only tallies sales from popular, tangible (brick-and-mortar) music stores. But I just spotted this logo in CDJapan a while ago, and found out that their sales now also contribute to the chart count:

You may view the list of stores that affect the Oricon charts in the Oricon website. Aside from CDJapan/NeoWing, other popular online sites accredited by Oricon I spotted in the list are Amazon Japan and HMV.

Whee!!! I don’t know when exactly this was rolled out, but it’s good news to be counted anyway :) I would recommend COMA for a Kanno+Sakamoto news blog that’s an Amazon Japan Associate :)

Actually, CDJapan sales have been contributing to the Oricon charts since forver – they just used to be bundled with its Japanese parent company Neowing before being recognised separately last year (see http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/grapes/-/cdjblog/2007_12_21_support_oricon).

@j1m0ne – Thanks, I only noticed the logo right now because I scrolled down their page to look for help files :P There were quite a number of people (even recently) who told me that online sales don’t count in Oricon, and no one bothered to correct them. *gah!!!* So I personally took it as fact, but now I know better.

I wanted to make this known because I noticed that some people expressed hesitation on buying online on account of not knowing if it would matter to the ranking (I hope they bought the CD anyway especially if they really liked the songs and had money to spare…). I hope this post of clarification encourages the purchase. So there you go guys, direct from the grapevine, it counts!!!
