The Macross F Karaoke Challenge Part 2 (Finished)

Rules:
The song has to be a Macross F song (preferably not Lion or Northern Cross or… Aimo… but I can’t stop you if you insist) with Kanno involved in it. You may sing over a karaoke version of the song, sing over the song, or sing over a karaoke-ized version of the song using an audio editor. If you’re going to sing acapella, or sing with your own instruments being played, then it has to be a song composed by Kanno (not just arranged). The website manager has the right to reject entries deemed inappropriate. Please see the current list of Macross F songs and their credits here.
For the SMS Chant Community collab, there has to be at least two people singing. Please send me only the final version.
Do not worry about the quality of your recording or your voice, this is not a contest. We’re doing this only for fun by the request of the readers!!!

Listening to Goliath’s one made me think of lots of mini-Goliaths running around, it was really cute in a way, haha.
I’ve never entered a karaoke thing online before, so not sure if I’ll have a go. Plus my voice on the microphone makes me sound like a child.

@all – the imeem player is driving me insane right now. Sometimes it shows all the songs I added, sometimes it doesn’t!!!
EDIT: Found a workaround for it, but I contacted imeem support anyway for them to find the bug and smash it
Anyway, there it goes, my voice still sounds hoarse, and out of breath… And the popping… ugh

Wow, these are coming in pretty fast.
“Iteza Gogo Kyuji Don’t be Late” came out kinda quiet cuz I really didn’t want to wake up the whole street at 6am. The harmonies are hard -_-. I don’t think I did them right.

I make them using Audacity if they don’t have an official one. It’s free, just search on google for it. The method to make karaoke tracks is around on google too.

@Saouri – if you have Adobe Audition, there is a filter called “Center Channel Extractor”, which you could use to remove vocals, or just remove the main vocals to keep the backing vocals. But it goes with a price. Just like Pippa said, try Audacity. You’ll need to use several steps to remove the voice using Audacity, but it should do the trick

the hardest part for is how my voice could still hold on through the 7 minutes, but the changes of songs actually gave me time to rest (seikan hikou was like heaven after lion-infinity-diamond crevasse in consecutive)
More? Maybe I’ll sing accapella for Ninjin Loves Yeah or maybe Diamond Crevasse, but I can’t guarantee my voice without Sheryl or Ranka masking my voice ^_^;;;
On other note, I forgot to mention how I really like all the enthusiasm you all gave for the karaokes! I agree with Fukurou, ‘everyone is cool in his/her own way’

I’m pretty late in leaving a comment, but I have to say there is some really awesome fan singing here. In the end, Pippa wins hands down for me. And I’m not saying that because of her cover songs for Maaya Sakamoto (although I hope there will be more in the future from The Other Side of Lucy). Every song I’ve heard from Pippa sounds spectacular.

Yeah, I’m quite frustrated with using my mic, and mixing my voice with the song until my voice is clear enough to be heard is very hard *_* I also didn’t fare better when I use karaoke tracks (I tried to sing some songs with the karaoke tracks, but my voice is muffled by the music -_-;;;). So… I might be singing some other songs in acapella but I’ll wait till my throat better to avoid too many off-key notes *laughs nervously*

@Naddie: I had tried it before, but the best mix I get was similar to the Nyan Nyan Service Medley that I recorded. And bringing the microphone closer to me also didn’t help, because of the LQ T_T
I hope I can still tinker the volume to make it better next time… Thanks for the suggestion

Goliath did you sing with the ‘empty’ diamond crevasse version? Am curious about the note transition on ‘mou nido to’ in the first version. Just curious because it feels more like May’ns performance from that rather than the original!! ^_^ your verses sound so emotional. Pretty!! Nice work on the background vocals too.

Thank you for the compliment! *bows* It’s not that I don’t want to sing louder… It’s just that the mic will erm, kind of distorted my voice if I sang too loud… so I might inadvertently lowered the dB of my voice -_-;; (and I still suck with the whole mixing thing).
Aside from the mic, my voice is quite thin in nature, and I avert my head when singing the high tone to prevent my voice being distorted in the rec. I’ll try to sing it louder without distorting the record (that might lead me searching a new mic :p). God I feel like I’m rambling, sorry!

@ Naddie: I usually turn my head away from the mic if I think my voice will be loud (i.e. when singing a high pitch/notes, I usually sing louder). It helps a little, but… it leads to another problem: it makes the voice sounds faraway if you don’t do it right -_-;;;

I try to pull the mic away from me – a lot of Jpop stars use this trick (Salyu, Namie Amuro, Keiko from globe) and when I recorded TOSOL the technician told me to try and pull away from the mic when I knew I was going to belt out notes.

@ Naddie: Haha, I also experiment a lot with my LQ mic. I guess how much far you have to pull your head away from the mic depends on the quality of the mic, the quality of the recorder, and the er, acoustic properties of the room you’re in (I… don’t know how to coin the term, but it’s like your voice will naturally echo in the bathroom and have different qualities in other rooms, depending the size, carpets attached, etc.). I never have any problems with the mics in the karaoke booths, but then again, I never know how it would turned out if it’s recorded
Blame it all to the mic! *gets smacked* In the end, experiments win… But I think you done a good job with your mic, nevertheless…

Also, sometimes if I overpower the mic too much but I don’t want to record then I will try and play with the volume on that part of the recording. Taking that part down but not the rest. It’s not perfect but sometimes it does take the edge off.

I was actually record Nyan Nyan Service Medley before in my phone, but when I ask my friend to hear that, she was like, ‘I… I know that it is your voice, but I don’t think that you sound that bad!’ So I went and dug the cabinet for any mic, and voila! I found one! (even though it looks so messed up that the wire of the headphone that was attached to the mic can be seen. I think it’s broken, but at least the mic can be used T_T) I understand the pain of a student! *sob*

The acoustic Yosei has nothing covering my voice at all (so I was a little nervous about it compared to the other one) but I think on the normal version having Sheryl’s backing vocals on the track, as I just inverted it, may cover up more of the flaws that were there more compared to just singing with Fuu-san’s piano. The only thing I did do was sing it in stages. First verse and chorus, second verse and chorus etc. Somehow I’d inevitably make a mistake!! You know how it is XD
I really am trying to record >_< but as I keep saying, house of six, tis hard to get a decent time to record. Especially since the next song is a loud one!!

Ok… I did it… and I have to say it was very educational… I learnt so much of Adobe Audition in one day.
It’s a really cool piece of software. A pity I’m don’t know music… it’s definitely fun to be able to play around with music like that.
I tried the remove vocal using “Center Channel Extractor”… somehow it didn’t remove it entirely … sort of muffled it … is it because the song is too complicated or do we have to do some tweaking for it to work properly?
Looking back, I think I should have gone for a SLOW song instead of Infinity… hehehe… it’s so hard reading out those lyrics… hehehe… I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up singing something entirely different in meaning.

And yeah the vocal cancellation technique doesn’t always work all that great since the tracks will most likely be muffled afterwards (like 80 or even 90% of the time).
