0__0 25 was like every song used in MacrossF somehow put into one episode. Yeah, a movie has been announced. When and what kind have yet to be. I’m thinking a re-telling like “DYRL”, but they did that to improve animation and some story stuff. MacrossF amazing animation. I have heard comments that this is only the 1st season though. Which could be true since an official episode count was never given.

  2. Haesslich Says:

It may be, or it may be a condensed/redone version of the story like the Mobile Suit Gundam movies or the Macross Plus movie was.

  3. Fugue Says:

i hope it isn’t a re-telling because sitting thru the never-ending love triangle again would be painful. please let it be a sequel, with some resolution for the triangle!

  4. Crusader Says:

Well even if it is a recap movie I’d still watch it since it is a chance to fix some of the animation issues we have had, that alone is reason enough to watch. Even so we will all watch it regardless if only to see if they really do resolve the love triangle.

Still the last ep was an Epic Kawamori Troll to make us all want to see the movie.

  5. Kai Says:

But the movie as a simple retelling of the series would just be a attempt to wring more money out of Mac F. There is enough loose ends to make a decent movie that carries on after ep25. And a mandatory movie ost.

  6. Westlo Says:

If there’s any justice in the world this will be a continuation, I think there’s enough hints to see who the eventually winner will be and that the way 25 ended was like a “See you next season” type ending we see in some harem shows.

  7. uhsieh Says:

    Can’t wait for the movie.

Personally, even if it’s a DYRL type of retelling, I’d watch it. It find it rather entertaining comparing the original and “dramatized” version of DYRL, and I hope it would be the same here. Plus, I can’t wait to see how much the animation would improve thanks to the movie budget.

On the other hand, if they include some “after the series” segment (Flashback 2012) in the movie, I’m all for it, too!

  8. Kai Says:

@Westlo, justice, don’t talk about justice to a Maaya fan that has been waiting for a live dvd for years :)
Mac F might end up like Aquarion; series+ova+movie although I think the movie doesn’t technically count since its just the ova in drag.

  9. Darkmax Says:

If you guys are Macross fan at all, you would have noticed that Kawamori Shoji has never done more than one season of a Macross title. It is always a movie, an OVA or both, never a second season.

I do hope he breaks the habit though.

  10. mai Says:

@Darkmax - I don’t remember any of his works having more than one season to be frank!

  11. Naru Says:

@Darkmax yep yep. I remember when the Escaflowne movie was announced and people were hoping for a solid ending, but no. We got a bad retelling unfortunately. But Macross is like Kawamori’s baby. He may or may not finish it cuz’ some stuff still wasn’t answered. I doubt we will have a solid ending though. The shipping wars for this show are too insane.

  12. mai Says:

@Naru - though I think Escaflowne did have a solid ending! Which makes me think that Macross F will have a sequel movie, cause they need to tie up loose ends like:

    1. How did Sheryl become an orphan?
    2. Why did Birler want to see Minmay, just a rabid fan?
    3. Who does Alto choose?

    (spoilers for Escaflowne TV:)

In Escaflowne, there was a definite choice by Hitomi, so I didn’t mind if they got separated. I didn’t want to see a too-happy ending with them getting married. I loved Escaflowne to death as a kid. It made my heart sink with the way the series ended. I don’t know, if it’s the music, or the fact that everything was already okay and now Hitomi is leaving, or all of it. Esca probably also had one of the most WTF revelations in anime I’ve ever seen. Emperor Dornkirk is Isaac Newton?! XD Who would have thought XD

  13. Westlo Says:

Yes Escaflowne ended perfectly.. or close enough, Frontier is still very very open and with the announcement of a movie being made the second after the last scene this should be a sequel.

  14. Izumo Says:

It’ll be interesting to see where they take the Frontier movie. Will it be like DYRL and be a re-telling?, or Macross Plus like being condensed with new footage?, or like Macross 7 & be something totally different but happens within the same timeframe as the series, or be like Flashback & show us the afterwards of the series.

Whatever they decide it is guaranteed that it will be great!

    @ mai-san
Sheryl was orphaned cause Grace experimented on her parents…they were contracted with the V-type virus & eventually died from it (Sheryl also has this as you probably know). Grace only told her she was homeless to coverup her schemes.

This is just a wild guess & something i just thought of, but could it be that Bilrer is an alias for Vrlitwhai Kridanik from the original series. They both have that patch over their right eye. They never really say what happened to him after he became a commander in 2016…so he’ll probably still be alive during the timeline of Frontier (40 years later). That’s just my guess.

Alto hasn’t chosen anyone but looking at Sheryl & Ranka’s reaction i guess Sheryl has the upperhand. And i think Alto considers Ranka more of a sisterly figure…

  15. mai Says:

@Izumo - When the Lion sequence with Sheryl and Ranka were flying as a background to Alto and Brera flying came up, it felt to me that Ranka was there for Brera, Sheryl for Alto. I don’t see how it would symbolically work otherwise, since Brera isn’t remotely related to Sheryl. By the way, I LOVED that scene to death. Then Alto shoots Grace with Michael’s sniper rifle!!! \(^o^)/

  16. Izumo Says:

Yeah i loved that scene as well…it was pretty intense…like your typical Macross scene. Lotsa bullets & missles flying all over the place. It was epic thats for sure.

That scene was also so reminiscent to DYRL in the end when Hikaru was about to shoot Bodolzer (i think that was his name) with Minnmay in the background.

Even the scene with the Vajra doing flybys near Sheryl was like the Zentradi in DYRL. The return of the infamous Ghost X-9 from Macross Plus to wreck havoc once again!! Too bad to see Alto’s wingman get it though :(

This series has so many nostalgic moments to past Macross series that i found it very touching…a great way to honour the past series that were the pioneers.

  17. Kai Says:

The Esca series is still no.1 for me after all this time but I didn’t really like the Esca movie so I hope SK doesn’t try something similar for the Mac F movie.

@Izumo, I thought Vrlitwhai left earth with the Megaroad fleet? His ship was one of Megaroad’s escorts.

For a movie script how about Frontier discovering the Megaroad 01 on the Vajra homeworld. Macross fanboy heaven.

  19. SMS Fabri Says:

They have to make a movie to explain lots of stuff that wasn’t in the series. So I hope kawamori do not make some compilation of the series like DYRL.

But I’m still more ancious about the live dvd show. XD

  20. Naru Says:

@mai oh for sure. Escaflowne is my favorite anime ever. 90s anime was so much better than todays. I haven’t watched anything for about 3 or so years until I heard about MacrossFrontier.
Escaflowne’s ending was perfect(my cat is named Van I love it so much), for sure. That is why I think that MacrossFrotnier will stay as it is. It works with that ending. He really could go either way and it would be fine. Escaflowne Hitomi chose Van over Allen, but she returned to her home world. We-the viewer-never know if they will meet again or if they will eventually fall in love with someone else. They are only 16. It was a conclusion, but still could be open ended. Also the same thing with Earth Girl Arjuna. You got an ending, but there was still a lot left unanswered but you could make up your own ending and be satisfied. If MacrossF picked Sheryl or Ranka then the shipping war would be insane. But you get enough interpretive hints for Alto to swing either way. That was what was so good about MacrossF.
@kai that was what Bilrer wanted in the first place. To find Minmay/Megaroad with SDFMacross cast. Who knows. I doubt it’ll happen. Minmay is a legend and will remain that way.

  21. darkmax Says:

Well, as I have mentioned and several has agreed to, there has not been a record of Mr Kawamori doing a sequel. The best he did was an OVA or a movie.

I, for one, do not wish to see a condensed version of the 25 episodes. DYRL was done to show the fans what could have been in the original Macross, but in the end the story of the movie was just taken as an inaccurate telling of the events that happened in the series. A historical movie.

I would love for them to explore the history of Vajra and their relationship with humans, namely the story of the lost fleet. I much prefer to leave Alto’s fate to our own imaginations, or the OVAs.

  22. macdawson Says:

Hope the movie is a new adventure rather than a 2 hour clip show of the series. For exampe, Grace somehow survived and begins wreaking havoc on the new colony, with geneticaly altered Vajra that obbey her every command. It’s just a thought.
What i would also love would be for a remake of the original Macross. I love the original, but the animation is dated and doesn’t do it justice. Can you imagine those VF-1’s and the SDF-1 in the same 3D animation used in Frontier? Sweetness. That, a 3rd gig of GITS SAC and a TV series of Akira,as it was in the original manga, are my top 3 anime wishes.
