Macross Frontier Episode 25: …!!!

The episode starts with a continuation of Ai Oboeteimasuka~bless the Little Queen from episode 24, and is then followed by a well-animated Northern Cross performance by Sheryl.

This was the Sheryl song that I wanted to be animated well, and I got my wish :) The first time it came out animated in episode 22, I was disappointed as the animation to this amazing song was too low in frame rate that it didn’t do it justice, and aside from that, the rest of the footage was recycled from old Sheryl performances, only with a different costume. This alone made my day!

It was followed by the episode title song, Anata no Oto. Apparently, the end was not dokun dokun (sorry to both Sheryl and Ranka shippers) :D I always thought it was entitled “Anata no Oto / Your Sound” because it was going to be a non-stop music fest, and I think I may be right!

Then follows THE MEDLEY.

Lion

Infinity

My Boyfriend is a Pilot

Diamond Crevasse

Seikan Hikou

What ’bout my Star

Ai Oboeteimasuka

And Maaya’s Aimo! I swear it has a new set of Gabriela Robin lyrics :)

The medley made me pretty insane for so many reasons. It was well-animated, there’s Maaya’s Aimo, and Sheryl’s My Boyfriend is a Pilot with a scene of Alto carrying Ranka. Plus everything that happened within it most especially the Alto and Brera tag team, Canaria going all GAR and *rambles* My only gripe is that Seikan Hikou and Diamond Crevasse didn’t seem to fit the tempo of the song. All in all, this has to be the best Macross song number ever in my opinion!

And finally, our open-ended love triangle ending, with what better song to play than Triangler sang by Sheryl and Ranka? :D (The screenshot above proves that Alto is still the prettiest of them all.)

Until the Macross Movie, see you guys around!

I think I’d start with ‘all the Macross Classics, right here’ (except Plus).

  2. Fugue Says:

start with the awesome medley! XD

  3. Kai Says:

I don’t envy you your task. There seemed like more singing than dialogue in ep25.
It’s a great end to the series, loved it.

  4. Pippa Says:

    And Maaya’s!! Don’t forget that!

  5. uhsieh Says:

And of course the fourth version of Aimo.

Awesome medley is awesome. You can make a CD out of the songs in this episode. Hmm… no break disk + Macross F Medley = ???

  6. Kai Says:

Alto is the prettyboy for the ladies, but I’ll stick with Sheryl.
The bit in Northern Cross where she makes the cross gesture and then the lights hit her and her hair flies up looks cool.
As for Maaya, she only sang a few lines in the past so this might be parts of the rest of Aimo. We will only know if (when) they release it (hint, hint flying dog).

  7. fugue Says:

@Kai - i bet the fansubbers are cursing the amount of songs they have to translate for this episode right now.

  8. Naru Says:

    finally a “triangular” duet!

  9. Kurogane Says:

I’m actually rewatching the episode just for the medley… already on my 4th time now.

God. I sure hope they release it as a track.

  10. Izumo Says:

Talk about ‘throwing everything into one basket’ or ‘going out with a BANG!’ This episode had it all!!!

Again Shoji Kawamori-san & comp. at their very best! There were so many explosions, lights, fire, nostalgia (Sheryl doing her best Minnmay impression of spreading her arms out) , songs, intensity everything you would want in a final episode. And the songs…oh!! the songs!!!

I think they crammed every song that was made for the series in this. I really like that poppish ‘faster’ version of Ai, Oboete that you hear sporatically throughout the episode. The best you can hear it is around 18:20 (Where Alto gets Michel’s rifle from Klan)..also did i also hear Sheryl sing Watashi no Pilot?

Finally to end it with a duet of Triangular (notice Megumi skips the high notes in the beginning?)..what more can you ask for from a series?!

Thank you Mr. Kawamori-san for honouring us with such a FANTASTIC series!!!

@fugue thats a funny thought, poor old subbers tearing their hair out in frustration. The raws have been great practise for my japanese though.

  12. atlanticus Says:

Yup.. a conclusion that is so satisfying and so fulfilling, really nothing more is needed, maybe not the movie even; I hope the movie don’t spoilt it. =p

  13. KurosakiJ Says:

I loved the Medely IT was so Flipping awesome especially how they used LION as the flagship fo the songs and they just added songs to it. I’d have to say the “What ’bout my star” part of the song fit so FLAWLESSLY OMFG it made me happy like a little japanese school girl. Also if you guys noticed they used scenese from the Lion opening intro and recreated them in the battle scenes while playing the Medely. Man I can’t wait to find this song so I can download it because it was EPIC!!!!!

  14. Pippa Says:

I’ve been trying to edit up a final ZOMG it was awesome episode AMV and the amount of awesomeness is incredible. Everything just fits together so well. But I’ve run out of steam with 10 seconds of the song to go :P

Yeah I really thought it was cool how all the opening footage were montaged in, I know people thought it was cheap to re-use it but I really liked it, it made the whole thing really cohesive!!

  15. Kai Says:

Listening to the some of the DC parts of THE MEDLEY, the organ in the back give it a slightly funereal feeling.

  16. Kuraudo Says:

Is that really Maaya’s Aimo? Not Nakajima’s? I didn’t notice any difference aside from the lyrics…

  17. mai Says:

@Karudo - positive, credits say so.

  18. Kuraudo Says:

I just listened to it again. Yeah, it’s different. =P

Crazy episode… so mind-blowing I don’t even know what to think of it. Lots of mecha goodness, a little cheesy, and the girls getting undressed doesn’t make much sense.

  19. Kuraudo Says:

How many new units were introduced? Things went so fast I couldn’t pay attention… not like I ever find Macross F’s units distinct enough to remember, but I’m sure there was more than Judah that was only employed in the final ep.

  20. Izumo Says:

    @ Kuraudo
    Well there were the
    VF-27s - Brea’s craft
VF-171s - the regular crafts (Alto uses this when he remains with Frontier)
VF-25s - Alto’s regular craft (red/white/black one), Luca & Ozma has other versions.
VB monster - Canaria’s uber machine!
Destroids - appears briefly when Quarter destroys Galaxy’s cannon
    Quadellums - Klan & comp.
Ghost X-9s/AIFs - unmanned crafts. Same as the one in Plus
    Battle Frontier/Galaxy - easily recognizable
Macross Quarter - also easily Recognizable
    Island ships - Colony ships
    Judahs - Luca’s “options” (gradius reference ^__^!)

I’m probably missing more but those are the ones i picked out.
