   @Westlo – I’m still not feeling it as much as say, Northern Cross, and I have to say I enjoy Ranka’s new songs (Blue Ether, Anata no Oto) compared to this one. But still, Northern Cross and Diamond Crevasse is still better than any of Ranka’s songs, in my opinion, so it balances out.

   Something interesting – I was actually reminded of Arjuna by this song

   The style and the way it was done does remind of some previous Kanno works but I couldn’t put a finger to it!

   Good try at the Engrish , but I think I heard the pronunciation quite clear as:

   Believe in me ( Seemingly not “Believing me” Engrish)

   I’m Lovin’ (Or Loving) You ( Seemingly not “I Loveing You”-I don’t know, but I heard the ‘m’ part.)

   It may just my ear playing trick on me…

   P.S : The second verse lyric is just… Wow… Anyone should take a jab in translating that! It’s just… Touching…

   I actually enjoyed this Sheryl’s song more compared to Diamond Crevasse and Northern Cross. While those two songs were great works, this one feels more mild and peaceful but you can still feel the determination in Sheryl’s voice, which is my favorite type of music from May’n/Kanno Yoko.

    My only real quibble is how you translated “泡になり消えても” as “to turn into dust”, since the word is “foam” to evoke the imagery of the little mermaid, sacrificing herself for the prince’s own happiness.

    By the way, the Arjuna song that this reminds me of is intro to Resonance of the Earth. It has a similar feel to the ending of Yousei, but when I listen to them again, it’s not really that similar – more like reminiscent

    This is the most depressing song ever. But beautiful. Sheryl songs are too sad sometimes.

    @nelly – Sheryl songs can be sad, but they’re doubly beautiful in that way

    If Sheryl pushes Alto to Ranka because she thinks Alto loves her, then she gets another +++ points from me. Can you believe it’s just two more episodes to the end?

    Sad song Unrequited love? It coincides with what happened in 23. I never did see Alto look at Sheryl like that but that’s just me. I think Sheryl will inevitably push Alto to Ranka, or if not, just accept it and focus on singing for Frontier.

    Koori is right, same kanji defferent reading
    覚ます(samasu) to akawen/open your eyes
    覚える(oboeru) to remember

    Also,
    kokoro no yami terasu hadou o atsume
    soshite watashi wa *tobi tatsutou*

    *The correction is tobitatou

    Lastly, I’d like to support awa = foam rather than dust
    I tend to think of the little mermaid too.

    Thanks for the corrections, everyone (I knew there was something wrong with the oboeru part, but the dictionary was saying the kanji was oboeru so I was virtually lost Apparently the ascii value also matters)! I’d just like to ask more, so if it’s “foam”, then is the translation also, “I turn into foam…”, or is there another translation?

    That made me spot something else (almost unnoticable without reading the kanji )

    この心報われず

    kono *omoi nukuwarezu*
    awa ni nari kiete mo heiki (anata to itai)

    *Correction: kono kokoro mukuwarezu

    The really straight translation for this part would be :
    “Even if this unrequited heart(love) turns into foam and disappears, it’s all right”

    oops sorry, i think the kanji for tatsu can be read/pronounce as ta for shortform instead of tatsu.

    In this case it’s in volition form (showing intention)
    tatsu -> tatou
    (iku -> ikou , miru -> miyou , suru -> shiyou )

    I think you confused it with the past and ~te forms., where a っ is added.
    tatsu -> tatta / tatte

    Japanese is confusing, keep fighting! ;P

    I don’t think “turning into foam” would work. “Awa ni naru” means things in vain. “Turning into foam” doesn’t carry the same meaning in English.

    I can’t argue about the meaning in English, but as a learner of Japanese it’d be troubling for me if I misunderstood “awa” for “dust” instead of it’s real meaning “foam/bubbles”.

    If you know the story of The Little Mermaid, she turns into foam in the end after seeing her prince marry another girl. I think it fits the song perfectly.

    I’m undecided about the dust/foam translation – If it’s “turn to foam”, then there should be a footer explaining why it’s so, don’t you think? Something like, “a reference to The Little Mermaid, wherein Ariel turns into foam after sacrificing herself for the Prince’s happiness”. (Come to think of it, this isn’t how I knew The Little Mermaid, thanks to Disney)

    Late post is late! Years later… I also support the foam translation, since it’s a fairytale reference (the Prince marries who believes is his savior, instead of his true savior, the little mermaid who has a chance to kill him and be free, instead she sacrifices for his false happiness).
