    AMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!

I hope the new song will sound awesome, with that composer-lyricist-performer trio it can’t be wrong at all.

AND SAY WHAT!!! Ichiko Hashimoto!? That’s great news!

  8. Albert Says:

    This is really, quite surprising.
Never thought she would do something for such a high profile anime like Code Geass but then again kanno has done some work for Sunrise.

  9. Cadentia Says:

The golden trio makes a return!

  10. Fuuka Says:

What?! How long has it been since those three have done a song together?
It is going to be awesome!!

I don’t even know how that happened.

  13. Yyrkoon Says:

It happens, let it go :)
Anyway thanks for the details! I really wonder what will be those secret track(s) ? And especially if these are songs, and who wrote them :D

  14. Yyrkoon Says:

According to the announcement on the Flying Dog website, there will be only one secret track.

  15. random Says:

Also, some music news websites have posted that track 1 and track 2 are both composed/arranged by Kanno, with lyrics by Iwasato.

  16. mai Says:

Oh really? I thought the song title actually sounds like something Kanno and team would do :p

Could you please show us these sites? I’ll look for them but I don’t have time just now…

  17. random Says:

    OH-News, for example. http://oh-news.net/live/?p=135342

Looks like Coma updated their post with this info too.

  18. mai Says:

    Alright, thanks for that!

  19. random Says:

I must have skimmed over the info too quickly though because I just noticed that the second song has lyrics by Maaya, not Yuho Iwasato.

  20. Fuuka Says:

    Yes, the second song is lyrics by Maaya Sakamoto but still composed by Yoko Kanno. “DEKOBOKO March”. I think DEKOBOKO is slang for rough or bumpy…please don’t quote me though ^^;;

  21. Naddie Says:

    Yessss a new Maaya+YK combo <3

  23. mai Says:

    Wow, thanks for that :)

  24. Yyrkoon Says:

    Thanks a lot!
The instrumentation is… wow! At the beginning it sounded like it was going to be a acoustic/orchestral song, and then it kept transforming and transforming into a hybrid electronic ballad song! It sounds a little like those old Napple Tale songs. Can’t wait for the release (as always… :p) to hear the song in its true quality!

  25. latraviata Says:

I think it sounds like a mixture of “Light of Love”,”Field of Love” and “Ongaku” lol

  26. Cadentia Says:

I don’t know how to describe the song, but I like it anyways and the instumentation is indeed interesting. Yoko Kanno always surprises me, that’s why I like her so much.

  27. PerdeskiCloyn Says:

Loving it to death right now. Wonderfully nostalgic, God I wish they teamed up more often these days.

  28. Yyrkoon Says:

I think it’s their best song since their separation after Shonen Alice. It’s like a reunion with Kanno’s style 10 years ago with an all grown-up Maaya!

  29. Pippa Says:

Out of the three songs they’ve done post-Shonen Alice I think only Triangler was a bit of a curve ball. Utsukushii Hito and this new song are both excellent. It will be interesting to hear the c/w track too :)

  30. Yyrkoon Says:

How could I have forgotten Utsukushii Hito… You’re absolutely right Pippa.
However for me Triangler and Aoi Ether were below the expected level :)

  31. mai Says:

Hey, I liked Ao no Ether, it was subtle but very pretty : )

  32. Yyrkoon Says:

Concerning Ao no Ether, the melody was good, the piano arrangement was gorgeous, but Maaya’s voice was not as pure as it used to be, like in most of her songs after Shonen Alice (however she seems to have retrieved her voice purity recently, especially from her live concerts like the Tanabata concert or her 30th anniversary’s).

  33. Pippa Says:

Yeah, me too. Sacriledge! Haha. Especially Megumi’s version. Very nice work from Maaya and Yoko on composition and lyrics.

  34. Fuu Says:

Yuho Iwasato’s lyrics are what make this song. She writes such beautiful and emotional lyrics.

“Triangler”, “Utsukushii Hito”, and “Ao no Ether” were all with lyrics that were not by her. This is first by all three since Shonen Alice. Yuho Iwasato has written songs for both since then (Aquarion, Sheryl’s songs in MacrossF, LOOP album, Kazeyomi album) but not all three together.

  35. Pippa Says:

This ‘pure voice’ thing do you mean clarity of tone? Or singing style? Technique? People bring this up at Maayas.net too and I can’t understand what this ‘pure’ voice lament is relating to. It seems a very vague description.

I will say that her style of singing has changed in the past four years: You Can’t Catch Me, Kazeyomi and the Budokan live gave me the impression she was curling her notes at the end but overall had more strength behind it than We Are Kazeyomi in 2009 or her early concert recordings. But the curling was a little hard on the ears, which is a shame.

But you are right in that ‘Driving in the Silence’ and the ‘In the Silence 2011′ DVD have totally reversed the trend. To me the latter half of 2011 and this new song have bought back the clear, crisp style of singing she does best. I don’t know whether this was down to the direction of those around her or a natural progression back to what felt comfortable to her though. Perhaps the people she worked with knew what would work best.

However, the fact of the matter is that ‘Shonen Alice’ will be ten years old next year and women’s voices change naturally over time. I think that we have to make allowances for the natural progressions that will take place in her voice. I’m not sure I would like it if ‘pure’ was going to be linked to the ‘young’ voice Maaya had in her early twenties and not linked technique or style.

Maaaah this ended up being a long thing. Apologies!

  36. Yyrkoon Says:

    I’ll try to explain :)
It’s both technique and singing style. I’m not refering to the purity of a young voice, all the contrary. I’m refering to notes she used to sing in a low head voice or in a mix voice, and that she sings now more often in her chest voice, and also to notes she used to sing in a more lyrical way. The best examples are Shonen Alice’s songs, Gravity, Garden of Everything, Tune the Rainbow, …
For me Shonen Alice is one of Maaya’s best songs because she sang with a very mature voice, and the sounds her voice makes are full of harmonics especially of high harmonics.
It’s subtle but let’s take In the Silence PV at 1’33. All the notes are a little blocked and are almost all sung in her chest voice without a lot of air expect the ‘ko’ at 1’48, the ‘ta’ at 1’50 and the end from 1’59. She sings more this way with Yoko Kanno, as we could see in Utsukushii Hito and I guess More than Words (the record quality makes me not sure). However, she didn’t sing that way in the piano version of Ao no Ether…
I also think she sang like that in Himitsu, I guess that depends greatly from the composer with who she works.
I hope you’ll have understood some parts of my point :D

  37. Darius Says:

The beginning is Incredible. It kind of reminds me of some School Food Punishment song but alot better than the theme they produced for her “Buddy”. I think this will be one of Maaya’s better opening theme songs in recent years.

  38. maskerade Says:

Just heard the song. It’s the More Than Words one right? Luckily it’s nowhere near the one by Extreme. Would have been terrifying. As it is, this is a classic Kanno piece and I am loving it! If the anime decides to use this as an opening, I would be very, very impressed. If ending song, utterly expected lol. Still, I love this. Quite the hark back to old Kanno, and I really dig the intensity of the drums near the end!

  39. Naddie Says:

I’ve been replaying the song and it’s pretty much perfect. Gah, I love it when YK + Maaya team up together. Love, love, love.
