Besides Ao no ether I did notice she’s also mentioned for the lyrics of both “special” versions of Aimo together with Gabriela Robin (she wasn’t in the credits for normal Aimo so I guess she wrote the additional lines or something .-.) And she’s doing a great job too

As much as i love both yoko and maaya, this song probably needs some time to grow on me. *cough*i think it’s mainly due to me not liking the Ranka character too much*cough*

Well, it’s no Diamond Crevasse, but I suppose it’s emotional and serious enough for a Ranka song. I sort of wish that Sakamoto sung it, though… ._. (I still can’t really appreciate Nakajima’s Ranka voice.)

Lovely song, and it’s about time that Ranka has a song of this emotional level. Also good to see Maaya’s name attached to this, which suggests perhaps there could be another rendition in the future?

I think it’s a lovely and fitting song for the episode and for Ranka. Megumi did a good job singing this song. Beautiful tune.

Here are my comments, which I avoided posting in the main post, since comments in the main post usually attract too much attention
This song was a bit of a disappointment, since I was expecting a more emotional delivery perhaps on a level somewhat near what May’n pulls off. Or if not near, just much much better that what Megumi usually delivers. But then I realized that May’n has become my the standard for Macross F’s emotional singing, making it an unfair benchmark to compare a newbie’s emotional singing with. So that given, I actually enjoy listening to this song, and the melody has been on my head for a while now.
I remember so many posters all around the net, AltoxRanka shippers to be specific, who say that Ranka sings beautiful songs like “Anata no Oto”, and compare it with Sheryl’s “Northern Cross”, you just see that Ranka’s love is better or something, and Sheryl’s relationship with him is going to be as tragic as Sheryl’s songs. I’m not going to say that this won’t be the outcome, but now you have Blue Ether, I can tell, even if my rough translation is not accurate, that it’s not a happy song at all. It’s officially “Blue Ether” vs. “Northern Cross” for me.
No, I’m not an AltoxSheryl shipper, I just like Sheryl over Ranka. I sure hope my appreciation of the music isn’t affected by this personal preference.

i’ve felt that all Ranka-related songs so far have been a disappointment. personally, i’m even getting tired of Aimo =.=; i wouldn’t be surprised if a duet version of Aimo is introduced.
However, Megumi’s rendition of the updated “Ai Oboeitemasu ka” is still spot on (this is valid only if May’n doesn’t come up with a version of her own as well
). Ranka was probably meant to evoke a cutesy image, so that’s what Yoko Kanno did with her songs – cute.
unfortunately, she’s going up against songs for a pop queen – Sheryl. so yeah, definitely an unfair comparison in that sense.

I think Northern Cross is in a different league to be honest, it’s a dirty song. I don’t mean sex wise but it sounds like a song that has quite a malevolent force behind it in both lyrics and delivery. When the line comes up “I love you I want to die” you can pretty much believe it ^^;; all that stuff about scratching out the person you love and “I kicked my dreams into ruins
I wanted to end on your planet” etc. etc. it’s in a very different vein to this song….

Hmm Japanese is a very obscure language
now I think about it maybe “Feelings in my heart” is better instead of ‘halfway feelings’ even though that’s what they are…in the dictionary it has “middle/center/the heart/halfway/midway” as a translation. I prefer ‘halfway’ myself since they are definitely in between both extremes haha but maybe “These feelings in the middle”?…personal preference to the translator…

I think you’re right. And listening back to the episode really closely, I think the first line might be “You who I used to treasure, please give me one word that isn’t “goodbye”‘ but I guess we’ll have to wait until the official lyrics in October. You know, the amount of music cd’s Cowboy Bebop and Escaflown had…I’m upset that Frontier won’t get more XD stupid credit crunch!

Finally watched this ep. Agreed, the song needs to grow on me; on an emotional level scale, Diamond Crevasse in the previous ep gave me more tears more than this song did.
I can’t help but be reminded of a young Sakamoto Maaya though, this song sounds so much like what Maaya would sing (and could pull of *beautifully* obviously
) Need more Maaya, too!
