Oh well, can’t wait for the full release of the op on youtube!

  9. grunty Says:

Apparently Yoko Kanno is composing the main theme for the new Code Geass. Sung by Maaya Sakamoto who is also voicing a character.

  11. mai Says:

    *wink wink*

Gekkou Symphonia is fantastic. Goosebumps!!! Goliath, Yy!!! Now!!!

Kimi no Shinwa sounds better live, imo, because the recorded one is over processed. AKINO’s voice should have been left alone!

  12. Kazushi Seijiro Says:

Well yeah, when I heard the recording of the OP its somewhat different from the live version. Because of some editing from the recording. But I still prefer both. The FULL ED, Gekkou Simfonia when I heard it, a sudden chill runs down my spine haha >____< Really EVOL has the best songs of the year. I just can't wait for the instrumentasl to be release! :) )))

  13. LoveMeKags Says:

    It’s out now! :)
The songs are amazing! Love the OP of this anime more than any other! I love AKINO.

  14. Xard Says:

gahh hey that’s cheating, I haven’t even ordered the CD yet (ment to do that tomorrow)… oh well

    This is a good single.

Kimi no Shinwa = I really like this sort of light pop rock (?) when it’s executed with grace that’s apparent here with mature and routine songwriting Kanno has had for a long time. Loved it in the PV and OP sequences both but I must admit there’s something a bit too clinical about it

given that I didn’t care all that much for the live performance I’m not exactly longing for vocals more “real” in that sense but yes, Akino’s voice is a bit too over-processed if you ask me… and this coming from someone who absolutely loves Koi no Dogfight and electro-pop generally, mind you.

It just doesn’t fit in this song all that well and robs emotional impact that should be there at places.

Oh well, still pretty good song but it’s no Lion or even Triangular – and definetly no Sousei no Aquarion.

Gekkou Symphonia: I’ve come over. This is superb and strong, strong piece. Love it. Easily the best ED of the season.

    Sasuga Kanno-sensei

Second best anime single of the season I’d say.

    3,5/5

  15. Kazushi Seijiro Says:

Yup I just got the full album!!!! > < I was like jumping for Joy when I got it!!!

Gonna use it on Karaoke contests~ I LOVE AKINO with bless4 and I LOVE Ms. Yoko Kanno!!! Great Work and Great Music!!! Hoping for more!!! :D DD

Kimi no Shinwa and Gekkou Simfonia best OP and ED of the year~ :) ))

  16. Cadentia Says:

I really, really like Gekkou Symphonia. A lot.

  17. Goliath Says:

    Time to cover!! @Yyrkoon :D D

  18. Ezra Says:

When is the OST going to be released ?

  19. mai Says:

No news yet on when, but we’ll keep you posted.

  20. mai Says:

By the way, the piano on Gekkou Symphonia is Kanno. <3

  21. Xard Says:

Figured as much from the way it was played. But doesn’t she usually play all piano and keyboard parts anyway? Only obvious exceptions I can think of are some of the jazz pieces on Cowboy Bebop. Piano Bar I was performed by Mark Soskin IIRC, for example…

  22. mai Says:

Yeah, I was open to the idea that she had someone else play it on record, not that she can’t do it herself though… She also played Piano Bar live and she was awesomesauce.

  23. mai Says:

That, and well I suppose Sakamichi no Apollon will not be her fingerwork, except some pieces maybe.

  24. Xard Says:

Kanno is obviously very talented pianist (and keyboardist) so it really isn’t a matter of being able to play the piece generally… I think she just probably isn’t really used to jazz improvising styled playing (at least at the time Bebop OST was recorded) which is why after composing said piano bars they had veteran like Soskin play it. I gather Kanno’s live version follows the recording very closely – which isn’t really what jazz pianists tend to do at live performances. So it isn’t really a matter of being or not being able to play the piece – but the sort of jazzy musical phrasings on Piano Bar I probably came more naturally from jazz player like Soskin…

Apollon probably won’t have much of her fingerwork, yeah.

I’m not enough of a musician (screw that, I can’t play worth a damn anything) to judge Kanno’s skill level accurately. It’s obviously very high but is it virtuoso level? I can’t really say, it’s not like she has ever written anything as batshit crazy as Liszt pieces *laugh*

  25. mai Says:

Actually, her live of Piano Bar was improvised too. I’ll try to hook you up if I find it, maybe later. It must be in YouTube somewhere…

  26. mai Says:

    Here, it’s the last piece:

  27. Goliath Says:

I need your help guys, I can’t find the romaji lyrics to both songs o.O Great would also be a translated version. Maybe you can help me out XD

  28. mai Says:

I’ll work on the lyrics this weekend if no one beats me to it.

  29. Xard Says:

oh right, I forgot that live piano medley had Kanno’s take on it… really love that one.

  30. Aka Says:
