Maybe one of the songs is Diamond Crevasse – guitar version with Sheryl and Bassara.
or “Ai oboeteimasuka” acoustic with Ranka and Bassara.
bye!

Sorry, I saw it on the right hand side of your page – CDJapan must have uploaded it
October 20th, 2010 at 9:19 am
Now that, I didn’t notice XD I suppose Sheryl is on the cover because she sells more? Or maybe there’s an alternate cover with Ranka on it.
October 20th, 2010 at 12:21 pm
I hope there is a cover of Ranka, I’m bored of seeing only Sheryl, sorry if it sounds offensive, I know this page is visited by more fans of May’n and Sheryl, that fans of Megumi/Ranka.
PD: Wow finally a song that is not Aimo, composed entirely by Gabriela Robin to Megumi
October 20th, 2010 at 1:04 pm
I’m actually a bit worried about the Gabriela-written songs, because they tend to be syrupy cute (or have I forgotten any song that wasn’t so?). I usually like other writers write for Kanno’s compositions ^__^;;
BTW don’t be afraid to say you’re bored of something here, as long as you don’t say you’re bored of Kanno, or else just avoid the site altogether. The other artists she is affiliated with are all fair game since they do “dominate” the site at times.

Oooh…I am loving the cover. *u*
This one is now my favorite next to the Pink Monsoon album art.
I can’t wait to hear the previews on this one.

It will probably be like the Nyan tama cover: Sheryl on one side, Ranka on the other. Interesting song titles. I wonder how it will turn out. I’m considering watching the series again to pump myself up for the new movie.
October 25th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
I was hoping for a new score release but it seems we’ll be left hanging once more. Sure, not much new BGM on the movie but there’s still enough unreleased material to fill a couple CD’s, at least. Instead we get this. Go figure.

Oh wow, I LOVE SONGBIRD, that’s my final verdict. Seikan Hikou is also pretty well-arranged, I am amused. This whole album sounds well-arranged don’t you guys think? I love it!
Also, that song of Ranka’s socks is really about Christmas socks. She sends you her wishes. World peace

Songbird and I can’t be silent sound absolutely fabulous, and I really dig that Ranka cover. Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to get my hands on this album~!

My first impression is pretty positive. I’ll deserve any judgement until I listen to the complete versions, but right now I love Songbird and funanori. And like Mai said, they all seem well-arranged.

After a handful of listens, I’m liking Songbird, Funanori, Seikan Eve, Tablet, and Maboroshi no Hikari. It’s much better than what I expected for a Christmas album
EDIT: I’m prematurely itching to write a review for this. Must hear the full version, soon.

The previews were a tasty appetizer. I’m gonna eventually want the full course.

My take on the lyrics to Songbird:
私の声が聞こえますか
あなたへ届いてますか
小さな音色
言葉の響きが
優しくてみてを取って
流れてゆくように
溶け合って
そって目覚める
懐かしくて??
泣きだよな気持ち
Watashi no koe ga kikoemasu ka
Anata e todoitemasu ka
Chiisa na neiro
Kotoba no hibiki ga
Yasashikute mite wo totte (?)
Nagareteyuku you ni
Tokeatte
Sotto mezameru
Natsukashikute ??
Naki da yo na kimochi
Can you hear my voice?
Does it reach you?
In a small voice
the echo in my words
carries gentleness
for it to flow.
It melds and awakens
[Then something about missing someone, tears, and feelings. From the other thread, the bridge goes something like "I can be strong even if I am afraid. This is love."]
(On the other hand, another Kanno ‘bird’ song! *snickers*)

Oh yes! I’ve been listening to Maboroshi no Hikari all afternoon, magnificent song.
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:33 am
Ribe ~ Maboroshi no Hikari, this song reminds me Ghost in the shell ambiance
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:57 am
Okay, I wasn’t able to stand it, I scooted out and listened to them. I like Seikan Eve between those two being discussed here. Ribe sounds like GITS:SAC’s Torukia but the latter is a completely awesome song beyond words and makes Ribe sound pale in comparison. Plus I think May’n overdid her tremolos on this one. She sounds great on Seikan Eve though… at some points even better than Megumi IMO.
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:23 pm
Seems like it’s all out, maybe I’ll listen to it when I have the time.
November 23rd, 2010 at 7:26 pm
I just listened to all the songs. I like them all with the exception of Merry Christmas without you
Overall it’s a good album.
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:39 pm
I just listened to Songbird… just that one first for now. At first I thought it wouldn’t reach my expectations, but it built up well towards the end
November 23rd, 2010 at 11:39 pm
Wow, I love this album. It’s consistent, true to the theme, the songs develop well, not jarring but still varied… my only wish is that a different set of vocalists worked on it lol! Funanori sounds like the bento song from CMYoko, but sang by Natsumi Kiyoura who imo has a much more pleasing voice than May’n. But anyway, what’s best is that this is an album that sounds good on FIRST listen instead of repeated listens which for me, makes it the best MacF song album ever released.
I want Maaya to sing Songbird
November 24th, 2010 at 2:01 am
mai is so tsundere for MacF :3
For those who haven’t got it yet, Songbird on youtube:

I too love this album. Songbird in particular which is propably my favourite track so far. I was also surprised how great Kutsushita no Uta and Sekan Eve turned out, especially the former. I don’t see the resemblance between Liebe – phantom love and Torukia though…anyway, I think I like all of these tracks!
Tablet is winsauce. Damn Kanno is brilliant when it comes to arranging: I think this is best arranged MacrossF album so far and I love its sound. Quirky touches everywhere and selection of instruments and sounds throughout the album play very much to my tastes (for example guitar on Seikan Eve)
And while I’m huge Maaya fan I don’t particularly want other people performing these. I won’t mind it of course but I don’t need any strong need for that. May’n and Nakajima give very definitive personalities for these songs, I feel – and I have hard time imagining someone else singing Kutsushita no Uta or one of the duet tracks. *shrug*
Favourite picks so far: Songbird, Ribe/Liebe – Maboroshi no hikari (I’m quite sure “Ribe” is supposed to be Liebe), Tablet and I find the romping fun of Silent de Nanka Iranai and Merry Christmas Without You absolutely irreristible. Delicious cheese you must eat it
November 24th, 2010 at 3:04 am
I loved Songbird and Ranka no “Kutsushita no Uta” the first sounds like a lovely song of hope and the second is the most beautiful Christmas song I’ve heard, the duet songs are well synchronized
, and the May’n songs sound a bit depressed, in my opinion, but still are well.
Instead of Songbird (which in my opinion it sounds good), I would rather listen a cover of Funanori by Maaya.
November 24th, 2010 at 3:43 am
@Xard – about the tsundere part I am not sure what you mean. The anime and its songs have its ups and downs so a person can like some aspects of something and dislike others. The voice of Megumi in Songbird for one, broke in the HQ. In the LQ it sounded smooth… if something, i learned not to make comments on LQ songs :p I still hold that she improved, and she must continually be. The arrangement of Kanno though, progressed better than I expected. I like song all the same, but my opinion for both Megumi and May’n stands – the former’s voice is pleasing and she’s improving in emotion and range but it’s not yet amazing. May’n on the other hand, has a voice I find to be emotional and has a lot of power but at times it is too scathing. Kanno however, is great on this album ergo I love it!
Torukia and Liebe have an interesting amount of synth that sounded too similar, and felt like a tad, just a tad, recycled to me. Actually even Tablet and Kutsu no shita reminded me of other Kanno songs too. But for me it was only an issue for Liebe because I thought Torukia to be amazing, and Liebe is beautiful too, but pales in comparison to it. Try to look for ‘Neko no kimochi’ from Escaflowne as a similar song to Kutsushita. This time, Kutsushita wins hands down
November 24th, 2010 at 3:56 am
@Love007 – I’m glad you pointed out the synch in the duets. They complemented each other’s voices well in the duets. I especially liked what they did with Seikan Eve.
November 24th, 2010 at 4:21 am
I think we all agree that one of the strongest points of this album is the arrangement
November 24th, 2010 at 6:39 am
Maybe some will find this funny, but I always find the Megumi voice more emotional, that May’n voice. And for the strength of their voices, we have to think they both have different vocal ranges, characters and both make their best effort.
And I agree with Cadentia. =(:3)
PS: “Songbird” reminds me to “Watashi ni Dekiru Koto” (still do not know why jajaja), and they both have duration of 5:13 xD
November 24th, 2010 at 7:32 am
I thought her voice is better in the Kobato ED because she is singing as Megumi… I think she has restraints singing as Ranka.
November 24th, 2010 at 7:33 am
Eeee! eeee!! it’s here nyahaha!!!! oops. pardon me.
November 24th, 2010 at 10:58 pm
Seikan Eve is my fav.
However, I do wish that they’d let Ranka’s voice grow into Megumi’s “better” range for the second movie. must be reallllll tough to sing in a Ranka voice. hats off to her for being able to do it
November 25th, 2010 at 7:14 am
Now that I’ve listened to them, my favorites are Songbird and Seikan Hikou eve out of the whole album! The solo Sheryl songs were okay but they didn’t really catch my taste the way those former two did. =P May’n did good in Seikan eve.
As for me I never differentiated between Megumi’s “Ranka voice” and her “real singing voice”. I see them as one. Her voice thins once the notes go high, and her voice gets bigger when the notes go down. She sings like that be it a Macross F song or not. In Jellyfish’s confession, Be Myself her voice is a lil higher (Ranka voice) only because the song demands it. It all depends on the song keys I guess.

I think there is a bit of difference. In one of the live bootlegs which I pointed out to Animesuki before, she sings Ao no Ether more fully than what we hear on record, which makes me think that she, at length, gets tired from suppressing her voice to achieve the youthful tone. I was happy with hearing that she can sing that way. I think her relaxed/natural tone sounds better.

well, i think anyone who has to sing in the “Ranka range” would get a sore throat real quick. (not that I’ve tried it… honest
)
November 26th, 2010 at 10:55 am
mmm but that’s not the fault of Megumi, are the producers who tell her to do that tone of voice.
Megumi’s voice live is amazing, but with the tone of Ranka she makes very beautiful melodies and not so far from his true voice, perhaps with some restrictions imposed by producers, but to me still are very beautiful songs, and that no other singer can interpret in the same way. And finally she sings with his natural tone in all productions outside of Macross Frontier and are also very beautiful (even without the music of Kanno-sama).
