…
Why did they have to add 3d animation? Why? WHY?
The animated clips look great, on the other hand.

Sheryl at piano looked amazing (do want that kind of scene for second film) but Northern Cross clip had too much CG overall, I feel.
Anata no Oto didn’t suffer from that and was basically huge ball of “kyaa~”

I think the CGI didn’t look good on her hair, but her actions looked great in it. I expected as much when I heard that they’re doing a motion capture. I suppose Seikan Hikou will get the same treatment because it is a dance.
What I want to really hear though is Songbird and I’m glad it’s being released earlier. *squirms in anticipation*

Heh, yeah, it’s disappointing that there ain’t any new songs here (I guess they were not yet finished around the time animation process was started?).
I thought the CGI capture thing was one specific video where there’s CGI versions of Nakajima and May’n both?
No doubt about movement looking good (Satelight being Satelight) but…it doesn’t beat “traditional” animation
wtf is that thing at 0:12 though. Personification of Ai-kun or what? And the “Ranka” has wrong coloured eyes O__o

well shoo, I just realized these clips were collected propably from many different song videos (there’s no piano on Northern Cross so I guess the Sheryl&piano part is from…Diamond Crevasse?) so I guess that Sheryl clip may indeed be from motion capture vid…though I still think they said it was going to be 3D versions of singers, not their characters…

I agree with Mai, the only thing that does not look good in CGI is Sheryl’s hair, I hope that the video of koi no dogfight does not resemble much to the animation of Macross Fufonfia…as seen on a scan.
I want to hear the full version Hougako Overflow, in addition to songs from the album Cosmic Cuune *-*

@Xard – I’d have to apologize (on behalf of CDJapan and their occasionally funny translations, hahaha) because the description in CDJapan says that it’s 3D versions of the singers, while in other Japanese sites, it says that it’s motion captures. CDJ might mean it’s Nakajima and May’n dancing in those videos you see, but not their 3D skins necessarily.
EDIT: It must be the coffee, but I feel oddly excited about Cosmic Kyuun. I want it now. Now. Now.

Hair is the hardest thing to animate in CGI. Ever wondered why almost every woman in CGI movies have short hair? Well, there is your answer. Pixar animators said they had a pretty hard time animating Violet’s hair in The Incredibles, and the Tangled team in Disney spent years just to develop new formulas and programs to get hair done right for once.

Sheryl on the piano looked awesome but the CGI was a bit ^^;;;

@mai aaaaaahhh ok, I get it now. To be honest I always thought it made no sense to motion capture singers and then make 3D versions of them…what’s the point, really? Video would propably only end up in serious uncanny valley and thus creepy.
I’ve been eagerly waiting for Cosmic Kyuun for ages by now but it really did reach another level with Songbird.
I don’t think Sheryl’s hair looks that bad overall, there’s one shot where it’s absolutely terrible (0:30) but otherwise it doesn’t bother me all that much

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT – does this mean we’re going to get new Aimo Tori no Hito scene from the upcoming film as a sneak peak? I have no idea what else this could possibly mean.
If this is true: HOLY SHIT I CAN’T WAIT

That’s a great cover…and I pray for an even more mature Ranka in the next movie (The False Songstress made her a bit more tolerable.
I might have to pick this up when it’s on sale.

Its a “kuri” (chestnut). Kuri is used as a pun in a lots of possible ways.
