Macross Frontier Episode 18: Lion OP

I like the animation, perhaps made me appreciate the song more :)

    watching this reminded me of a magical girl anime OP for some reason. Especially the end where they run and change clothes! Also makes me glad they got Yoko Kanno. SDFMacross had like…the worst OP & ED ever. I want to hear the full though, cuz’ you can tell they toned down Sheryl’s voice otherwise it would overpower Ranka’s.

    I like the song a lot – the duet may not have been the best idea, though, as it makes the differences between May’n's and Megumi’s voice painfully obvious. ^^;;

    The animation is nice, too, though I have to wonder what’s up with Sheryl’s nipples. (Either she has none or… OW!!)

    The toned down may’n overpowered Megumi anyway lol

    Yeah the difference between their voices were pretty obvious, lol. Sounded great from what little we’ve heard of it :D

    For some reason the flying girls in skimpy outfits didn’t really hit my buttons XD it was all over the place. The song is good though, I do like it. But it wasn’t as informative as the original opening to the plot twists (except for ribbon tied sheryl but that doesn’t tell me anything) so I guess that’s a good thing…or is it?? I’m desperate to know what happens haha

    Is it just me or has Ranka’s character design changed a bit? I’m not sure whether it’s my eyes or she’s looking more mature…?

    @ Pippa – they might be starting to make Ranka more mature… By the way, if you watch the animation again, the scene where Sheryl’s naked silhouette (I say it’s a silhouette) is shown, you see two triangles, one pink, one blue. The blue one is Alto’s right? But that doesn’t tell us that much either :P

    The two girls looked like magical girls who transform by… changing clothes, especially in the ending.

    “I’ll punish you with my song, in the name of Alto!”

    You’re right, re-watching there are triangles flying all over the place, good job the next episode is called Triangular then, eh? ^^ but I like the strong message of this song. It’s nice to see two good, strong female characters in a series like this. Good ol’ Macross! “I want to survive” What a powerful song >_<

    Too bad there are flying frilly girls all over the place in the opening though haha I can’t get used to it XD they’re really hyping up the love triangle this time. We don’t even get to see the other characters much…

    I was still dreading the Seikanhikou opening for Ep 18 and I was blown away by Lion, it was fantastic.
    As to who’s voice I prefer: Maaya. Perhaps not Triangler, but Hemisphere and Kiseki no umi still tops my anime op list.

    Just make me feel that … we might see some macross 7 Sound energy barrier soon =.= I wouldn’t be surpise either… Seeing Ranka start blasting them all over the place.

    ^ Did you see, Grace and their sound system staff are actually making a stage for Ranka, which looks exactly like the stage that Minmay performed in the original Macross? The whole OP actually looked like they were indeed attacking using the song, which, depending on how you like the idea, might turn out to be a pleasant dream, or a nightmare.

    2ch amuses me to no end, they are discussing with just as much fervor the meanings of all the different triangle colours as we are XD love it!

    @PIppa – so what did they “discover” this time about the triangle colors? :D I think it’s just their hair color. Maybe it’s not AltoxSheryl, but rather Alto=Sheryl since Sheryl has both triangles on her body. XD

    Well I was on the coupling thread, there was a lot of theory that it was SherylXAlto being hinted at but then apparently Brera was shown at one point with Sheryl and they were like “omg cud dis be linK between them???” haha. But I’m not sure about that one. There’s also a BreraXRanka theory. It looks like less and less are thinking that it will end up RankaXAlto but this director does seem to be turning all Macross theories upside down so it’s difficult to say.

    There are some really interesting posts. They do think the colours correspond to characters but then there’s a part when Ranka and Sheryl swap colours apparently. Also, the order that they appear on screen at the end of the credits is opposite to the Triangler ones – signifying a shift of focus in the love triangle? At the end of Triangler Sheryl appears first then Ranka then Alto, this time it’s Ranka then Sheryl then Alto. I thought myself that that meant Sheryl had been bumped up to secondary main character this arc…

    Love this song. I disagree that the duet is not a good idea, I think the point of duet is to have contrast between two different voices. With that in mind, this song works.
