THE Kanno Microsoft Ad (and other notable ads)
“Kanno made music for Microsoft?!”

Among the numerous commercial music that Yoko Kanno has made, Microsoft seems to be the most intriguing. It’s not because the music is grand, but the company is ubiquitous, highly profitable, controversial, whatever.
Before eyebrows raise, I think we could also list other big-name international companies who commissioned Kanno to do the music for their ads. Let’s start with IBM, Sony, Canon, Master Card (Priceless!), Sharp, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Coca-Cola, among many others. I have 122 advertisement song samples in my computer, and that doesn’t even cover all of her work for ads. I only have the ones that are published in Grand Funk. Kanno should have an official homepage that has news about everything she does *sigh*.

Lots of good-looking people on that ad who use Microsoft, don’t you think?
Now let’s move on to other ads with Kanno’s compositions that I’d like to share with everyone:
Japan Railways, Toyota Lexus
If you’re looking for a Kanno ad that is similar to what she does for anime, here are two which I think are nice. Both of these are sang by Origa and they are very, very pretty. The first one is for Japan Railways, the second is for Toyota Lexus. Sorry for the crappy slideshow I created, I wished I knew where the real videos are.
Master Card: Priceless
You guys know those set of “Priceless” ads from Master Card International? Click here to view the Japanese ad. A Kanno score? Priceless
Otsuka Caloriemate feat. Jack Bauer
This last set of Kanno ads, I post them here because they’re trippy. Otsuka Caloriemate is a brand of energy food and drink for people on the move. And in this commercial, the product is endorsed by no less than Jack Bauer from 24. No kidding. And Kanno did the music for it
The videos below have low quality audio, so here’s one of the three compositions in higher quality:

Is there any such thing as an album discography for Grand Funk?

You know what… I’m thinking I should make a post on “how to navigate Grand Funk” for non-Japanese speakers. hmmmm… It took me a while figuring it out
There is a Kanno page there, and an “all artists” page (there are about 6 of them, I think?). But the Kanno page does not index all commercials, just the newer ones recorded at that studio.
Have you watched the Caloriemate videos? They’re funny XD
