Rasmus Faber:
Platina Jazz Anime Standards Vol. 1

UPDATE (Feb. 2, 12am): Hey, Rasmus Faber actually dropped by and shared the links to the launch party performance of the album at the comments below. Say hello :) Also, Deculture!

I was delaying writing about this until I heard a few samples, just to check if it’s not just a plain cover of the songs. It’s not bad at all, I may say :) Plus, based on some write-ups about him, he seems to have been influenced by Kanno starting from Macross Plus, so he’s not just selling out by doing this album. If you notice, apart from the usual Kanno fare, “Sousei no Aquarion” and “Seikan Hikou”, he also delivers two other songs which are a bit more obscure in comparison, yet are definitely popular among the fans, “Toki no Kioku” and “Voices”.

As a background, Rasmus Faber is a Swedish DJ who primarily does house music. I guess the generation of artists that have been influenced by Kanno are slowly turning up in the music scene? :)

Given the dearth of anime arrange albums (or maybe I haven’t been paying attention) this album comes as a nice surprise. The few samples listed certainly do bring out an interesting take on the piece and I’m glad it’s not just a plain rearrangement.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

  3. mai Says:

I could not find the singers, sorry. Even the Amazon japan list has only the original lyricists and composers in the credits

  4. 3Force Says:

Interestingly enough, this is on the US iTunes store.

Ended up buying this on the iTunes store. A very well done CD of arrangements – I’m not normally into jazz, but this is an excellent CD. $10 for 17 great tracks.

Much to my suprise “Gaanetto” turned out to be a bad romanization of “Garnet” from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
