The YKDB Karaoke - Wo Qui Non Coin

Year 2005, the YKDB Forum was born, and the community was buzzing with members who have a newly found niche to express their love for Yoko Kanno. After finding out that there are so many musicians and artists in the forum, I decided do some sort of karaoke game where we virtually pass the mic from one forumer to another.

I chose this song because it doesn’t need any vocal gymnastics. Anyone, even preschoolers could learn this song. Even so, since not all members were singers anyway, this could be a “How to Trainwreck a Kanno/Gabriela Song”. But to be fair, most of the singers who volunteered could really, really sing. Take for example Goliath, previously featured in this blog as one really talented singer who loves to sing Kanno songs, sings in this montage.

Before you listen to this, it might be of note that the singers come from 4 different continents: North America, South America, Europe and Asia. The internet works wonders.

The singers to this song are Goliath, Connor, Roger, Mike6 (that’s me), Blackmago. I hope I didn’t miss anybody :)

I mixed this song using Adobe Audition which involved time shifting, noise reduction, volume control, and karaoke filters among others. No pitch correction, which accounts for off-key parts here and there. I guess I didn’t do it because pitch correction is very hard!

If any of you guys have the guts to sing the last few stanzas which are currently mixed in with the original rendition, just join the forum and post away!

I believe a handful of other members owe us a line or two in this song!!!

  2. Goliath Says:

I remember that I had a cold when I sang my part XD

  3. mai Says:

    You had a cold?!

I feel nostalgic listening to this recording… If only we got to finish it. But now I think it sounds good having the last part of the original recording finish the song :P

  4. Roger Says:

    Well Done Mai!
    I wish I didn’t do this falsetto part -_-
But anyway: I like what became of the project.
By the way: We have to do an ending of the song ;)

Roger, do you remember, I actually have recordings of the very last phrase, one by you, another by me, and we were supposed to mix it in with everyone else who sang but it never got finished?

The falsetto part sounds fine! It adds variety to the song :)

The song with the vocals of you guys sounds quite alright and it’s amusing! I’d like to do one of Replica, but the microphone is screwed :(

  7. blackmago Says:

how dared you to upload this… xD

Ed - I think replica is hard to sing! I guess, since I’m tone-deaf XD Come to think of it, the notes of that are barely one octave, definitely singable. (or train-wreckable). But making a karaoke of that one is a big challenge. Lots of echoes here and there…

blackmago - I didn’t mention who sang what part anyway XD Come on, it’s cute!!!

By the way, I just noticed that the song is downloadable. Right click on the song and torture yourself with some geeks singing the song XD
