Macross F Single “CMRanka” Release

UPDATE: Full track list is now up, thanks to Love007 for the lead! Listen to samples here. Very cute XD

Megumi Nakajima’s blog confirms the release of a single entitled “CMRanka”, linked to the Macross F Movie, as previously reported. It will include the Macross F Movie ED Sou Da Yo.

Details:

CD Title: CMRanka
Catalog No.: VTCL-35089
Release Date: December 16, 2009
Description (via Megumi’s blog): This release doesn’t seem to be a single, the release will be delivered with contents in full volume/amount! These are also all written by Yoko Kanno! A universal CM music maestro, this release will showcase her craftsmanship with more than one piece.
Purchase through CDJapan .

Track List:

1. Sou da yo.
2. Starlight Nattou
3. Dynam Chougoukin
4. Kaitaku Juuki
5. Daruma Seminar
6. Ninjin loves you yeah!
7. Family Mart Cosmos
8. Koi no Dogfight (Chotto Dake)

For those who are not aware, Yoko Kanno’s CM release CD’s are entitled “CMYoko”, and this seems to be an allusion to that. Most people know her for being an anime composer, but I think she’s been more recognized and awarded in the industry for her CM works. I bet they pay good money for it too.

The description makes it sound like it’s going to have more than one CM song. I hope so, the more songs the better

  2. Barwkl Says:

    Merry Christmas : D

  3. Love007 Says:

@Love07 – of course I’ll write about Megumi! :) It just happens that I’m only residing in Kanno circles, and it is May’n who talks about Kanno the most, which gets the attention of the community. I’ll always write about her when it’s related to this blog :)

  5. PerdeskiCloyn Says:

Clever. ^^ Apparently Ranka will be doing a lot of promotional stunts in the movie. Nice kudos to CMYoko albums, really attests to how popular they’ve become.

  6. Knightwing Says:

Having heard Sou Da Yo on crossover concert live, it is definitely on my list of CD to buy for sure

  7. Naddie Says:

Meh, I’m not too thrilled about this – I would’ve preferred a full single release (or an album omg) to be honest. BUT anything YK is a must-have on my wishlist :]

  9. Josue Says:

It seems that Sou da yo was written by Maaya and composed by Kanno. Well at least that’s what i saw on Nico douga on the latest MacrossF radio transmission.

  11. Cadentia Says:

That cover is beyond cute buhyooo

I think the other two songs might be karaoke tracks.

  12. Xard Says:

    SWEET GOD

I nearly had heart attack when I saw that cover. Sheryl can have her sexyness, I think I take the fatal levels of cuteness over it *_________*

  13. yuKime Says:

Mai, Mamegu’s blog already released the track list… You got everything right (except there’s no Nyan Nyan >_<)

    Tracklist

    1.そうだよ。 (Sou da yo.)
    2.スターライト納豆 (Starlight Nattou)
    3.ダイナム超合金 (Dynam Chougoukin)
    4.開拓重機 (Kaitaku Juuki)
    5.だるまゼミナール (Daruma Seminar)
6.ニンジーン loves you yeah ! (Ninjin loves you yeah!)
    7.ファミリーマート・コスモス (Family Mart Cosmos)

The eight one was confirmed as well but Mamegu’s blog didn’t reveal it… Either it’s just a plain karaoke ver. of Sou da yo… OR it might be a nice song added such as when they added Ai ~ Oboete Imasu ka for her first single! X3
Either way, I am definitely getting it!!

  14. Love007 Says:

@Mai i found the eighth song, and samples of the CD http://www.jvcmusic.co.jp/-/Artist/A021733.html
    =(;3)Kira!!!

  15. Xard Says:

    GHEEEEEEEEEEEE =D

Here I come ridiculously cute Ranka hilariousness! *clicks the link*

  16. Cadentia Says:

    @Love007: thanks for the link!

lol, the Dynam cm seems like the op for an old mecha show. Overall the songs are lulzy, I hope they release karaoke tracks for these. Also, the last one is another cm song?

  17. yuKime Says:

@Love007: Thanks for the link~! And so my hope for the eighth track comes crashing down… Another CM song. =_=

Title: Love’s Dog Fight (Just a Little Bit)

Sou Da Yo is like the oddball in the group. XD

  18. mai Says:

The dogfight song sounds like a Vocaloid… :D

  19. raile Says:

Sou Da Yo is the only song that doesn’t fit in.

  20. Yyrkoon Says:

Is that maxi-single a joke? XD Does Ranka think she can beat Sheryl with that? (with CM songs?!!)

I definitely hate Macross F! (well, it’s been a long time I realized that, but I just needed to say it to feel better, sorry ^^)

  21. Xard Says:

SOMEONE HELP ME KAITAKU JUUKI CHORUS HAS BEEN PLAYING IN MY HEAD ALL DAY X____X

“Is that maxi-single a joke? XD Does Ranka think she can beat Sheryl with that? (with CM songs?!!)”

I got to admit I vastly enjoyed these samples more than the Universal Bunny ones when they initially came out. This stuff is ridiculously cute and above all *hilarious* :D (obviously this is bunch of CM songs + Sou Da Yo for plot reasons)

“I definitely hate Macross F! (well, it’s been a long time I realized that, but I just needed to say it to feel better, sorry ^^)”

    you’re a bad person, tsk tsk =(

    @mai

“The dogfight song sounds like a Vocaloid… :D

I’m sure that’s not coincidence, heh (that’s one catchy bugger too… >_< it reminds me of some sort of 90s “synth” pop along with vocaloids) :)

  22. Cadentia Says:

Koi no Dogfight reminds me of the typical stuff you find in a moe show, only with Kanno’s touch :)

  23. Love007 Says:

@Yyrkoon : Megumi and May’n are two very different people, you should not compare because although both sing songs jpop, are very different styles. Also in the anime the only thing they have in common is the “man” that they love.

Moreover I think the problem is not Megumi, much of the responsibility lies with Yoko-sama that produced only commercials songs and Koi no Dogfight (is not whether a CM or a full song) …, although are excellent, are not “songs” are short songs of commercial. Mamegu’s voice can be exploited very well if the styles are chosen correctly, can be taken as an example Sou da yo or Ao no Ether written by Maaya-san and Jellyfish no Kokuhaku written by Iwasato Yuho and composed by Dan Miyakawa for Kobato series in the slow songs. And Anata no Oto (Macross F), Shining on (Nostalgia) or After the Heart Rain (Basquash!), songs with energy and have the special touch that gives Megumi.
Finally in the Macross F series and the film, the greatest responsibility is of Shoji Kawamori and the other producers, because I think they have humiliated too Ranka and that never happened in a previous Macross series with a main character.
Excuse my English is not very good XD
“Even if she sing a song of barney, would remain his fan, jajaja =(:3)Paz!”

  24. Yyrkoon Says:

    @Xard:

    > you’re a bad person, tsk tsk =(

Really T_T? Well if that’s the price for having some taste :P

But actually, I think that “maxi-single” may be better than the Universal Bunny “mini-album” which contains a lot of messy songs. At least, every Ranka song seems to be listenable for now…

  25. Xard Says:

With “Kanno touch” I take you mean “it’s actually awesomely fun whee :D

My “review” (as these are just short samples and we’ve only heard Family Mart CM it can’t be called review can it…)

1.Sou Da Yo: I’ve finally gotten over how this was recorded as opposed to live bootleg that came out earlier (if we’d had good quality official release of that track it would’ve been in my top 5 MF tracks, definetly…as Cadentia said it somewhere, very emotional and unpretentious performance. Beautiful song). Live Sou Da Yo (and the first trailer one, supposedly demo) had this sound of sad, wistful love song. This final version is much more a gentle lullabylike love song. It’s beautiful and I’m starting to really like it… too bad for all the wasted potential tho’ (still has possibility to rise to challenge Obelisk & Pink Monsoon but as it is it looks like PM is best new song)

    2. Starlight Nattou: catchy and silly. I love it :D

    3. Dynam Chogoukin: HAHAAHAHA :D This *is* like parody of some mecha theme tune. Knowing the context of performance of this it makes perfect sense though… I really want to see this scene

    4. Kaitaku Juuki: GAHHH MAKE IT STOOP .__.’ For some reason this short sample got stuck in my head. Awesome fun. Combination of Ranka being ridiculously cute + those background vocals = hahaha, oh wow

5.Daruma Seminar = winrar! Very catchy melody. lol@outfit while we’re at it (well, this holds for all outfits but anyway… :D )

    6. Ninjiin loves you yeah: this is already stuff of legends! :P

    7. Family Mart Cosmos: GHEEEE CUUUUUUTE *________* Only one I can make “full” review of. And that review says: GHEEEE CUUUUUUTE *________*

    8. Love’s Dog Fight (Just a Little Bit): Catchy, vocaloidy, funny, silly. Most “songy” CM and it’s great fun too! :D

Damn this whole album is “great fun”! This may only have one song proper but I be damned if listening to this won’t be addictive :P

Also: easily best cover of any MF album. :3

  26. Xard Says:

    @Yyrkoon:

“Really T_T? Well if that’s the price for having some taste :P

Yes! *pokes with a stick* :P

(what was bad about MF though? I went into seeing it knowing only bare basics of Macross franchise and was blown away by the whole. Ahh well… )

“But actually, I think that “maxi-single” may be better than the Universal Bunny “mini-album” which contains a lot of messy songs. At least, every Ranka song seems to be listenable for now…”

shoo, I forgot the UB review! D: And if going by samples I’d agree (UB has some average songs, this is constantly in the “ridiculously catchy, cute and funny” mode which may not be way to great art but is certainly way to gooood time :D ) . But as a whole I think UB is quite good album IMO, a bit underwhelming after awesomeness of show OSTs but… *shrug*

  27. vv Says:

“Is that maxi-single a joke? XD Does Ranka think she can beat Sheryl with that? (with CM songs?!!)”

tbh, Sheryl’s mini-album sucks. full of fillers. i dont even like her old songs from ost 1+2. and the songs from mini-album are WAY worse.
I dont even look forward to YK’s compositions any more since she got her hands on MF.

I miss the old times. big time.

  28. jason Says:

Eh… I’m not liking most of these songs. They really are songs for (fake) commercials. Megumi’s upcoming single for the Kobato ED sounds better in my opinion.

  29. yuKime Says:

I was apprehensive at first but after listening to the movie audio, it ALL grew on me and now I can’t wait for the release of CM Ranka so I can have them on my iPod!!! X3 I specially like the Starlight Nattou, Kaitaku Juuki and Family Cosmos!!!

  30. mai Says:

@all – I agree that this sounds like a joke release, but didn’t last year have a flurry of joke releases, two in fact? That this one had once decent song is good enough, and the rest could go down the drain. It’s a “single”, and it’s being sold for the price of a single bearing several joke songs as bonus tracks. I dunno, I wasn’t expecting anything terribly amazing (not saying it’s bad to expect though).

The two CMYoko releases sound better than this release, and the reason for that is they’re really playing around with Ranka’s character. I feel that this is a “Macross F” thing, and for some reason, I actually want Kanno to get out of it. Very soon. I feel like I’ve had enough, but that’s just me :)

  31. Yyrkoon Says:

    And me too! ;)

  32. Atashi Says:

Something about the CD cover looked weird, so I drew a line.

…Her mouth is off-center. Ugh, brain hurts.

  33. Atashi Says:

    *drew a line

  34. mai Says:

    ^I thought it was a smirk :D

  35. Love007 Says:

I think the problem is Shoji Kawamori and producers, which have greatly humiliated to Ranka, and repressed to Yoko. I hope that in the second movie permit that the genius of Yoko-sama surprise us with unique songs, such as Macross Plus, and that these are not directed by producers who know nothing about music XP!
I also hope that Ranka finally be treated as the main character that is. And not the object of ridicule that has made of she Shoji.
my writing is not as good, sorry =(:3)
