Megumi Nakajima Seikan Hikou Dance Video

DECULTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Ranka Dance video wasn’t so clear, now we can see how the dance really looks like. This performance was for the Animax 10th Anniversary Commemoration Special. Those people cheering at the side (looks like TV staff members) look geeky in a cute way don’t they? Megumi is so cute!

The August edition of BEAT Magazine mentioned that the Macross F staff animated the Ranka Gallia 4 attack using footage of Megumi singing. Must have been fun! Is it just me, or does Megumi have… fangs? :D

(For Filipinos: Megumi Nakajima looks kinda like Sarah Geronimo in that video *__* )

There wasn’t really much atmosphere in the performance, other than the cute ‘geeky’ people doing their, ummm thing. The lack of atmosphere hurts her performance.

Megumi’s live singing is okay, i noticed some parts in the song that her voice gets strained abit. Still i love her so i have no problem with it but if i was being a critic i would be a little harder on her.

Near the end of the song she seems like she was getting tired cause that is where i noticed most of the voice strain. All that moving around doing the ‘dance’ must have been tiring.

Due to my love of her i enjoyed this…still i think she’ll get better as she learns the business.

I actually liked it more than the May’n Live, Megumi’s live is closer to the recorded version.

well, i think we can see here that she is a beginner. She is very concentrated on the singing, so the whole performance seems quite stiff. And what the hell are the people on the side doing xD. Looks like they have to think about every clap..”Clap, clap… oh, what next?..ahh.. clap..” o.O
Anyway, her live singing is already quite good, when she gets used to sing more live she will also have longer breath until the end^^ (and my english gets worse by the way *lol*)

  4. mai Says:

Your English is pretty good I’d say :) I can hear her losing her breath especially during and after the parts where she has to jump every two beats, but I suppose I don’t mind that :D

  5. エム Says:

Ohh.. Megumi’s really cute (^_^) I really like her voice.

Anyway, I’m a Filipino watching your site. Yeah, I agree that she somewhat looks like Sarah Geronimo here (when you look from afar), but I think she also looks more like Kyla (another Filipino singer) with the old hair style. Look: http://www.titikpilipino.com/images/news/kyla_concert2004.jpg

    I wonder who you knew Sarah Geronimo. (^ ^);

  6. エム Says:

Oh! I’m shocked to know that her mother is a Filipina! (accdg. to YouTube) That’s great! Filipinos do love to sing! XD

  7. mai Says:

^ I’m from the Philippines, living in the Philippines ;)

  8. Allen Says:

yep.. she’s a half-filipina. ;) she’s way too cute than sarah and kyla though. I quickly checked wiki for info about her when I first saw her and I was really surprised when I found out that her mother is a Filipina.. =D I thought that she’s a pure Japanese. Well, Filipinos are really good in singing and she has nice vocals too!
Her live performance is better compared to May’n, and at least, the audience are more lively than the audience in May’n Diamond Crevasse live performance (they looked really bored and sleepy, just stared at her, no emotions at all and it seems that they didn’t like what they are watching) XD I’ve watched this vid many times now, and i just can’t enough of her! She’s so adorable and cute!!! :) Well, i’m really supporting her now, specially when i found out that she’s a half-Filipina. Mabuhay ka megumi-chan!!! XD (i wonder if she can speak and understand Tagalog.. i hope she can.. =D)

To be fair to May’n, the song performed in her live (of which we have a full video), Diamond Crevasse, is a very difficult song to sing. Plus, what’s more, is that the audience that was listening to her are not anime fans - they are pop fans who would even avoid being seen watching anime. Anime is not mainstream in Japan, and according to some, even looked down upon as childish, etc. The VERY small audience in Megumi’s video though, are hosts and tv staff from an anime show, no wonder their enthusiasm. Besides that, May’n’s song is a sad farewell ballad, I would be surprised if anyone smiled, clapped or jumped.

Also, I would not root for Megumi just because she’s part Filipina, and so am I. That’s unfair. I judge both singers based on their singing prowess, stage presence, etc. I think that’s the best attitude in rooting for singers.

On that account, I think that both singers have their ups and downs. May’n has a pretty electric voice and a full lower register, the latter of which I love A LOT. I love diva voices. But her upper register is in a style that may not be liked by everyone. Megumi on the other hand has a sweet voice, which is soothing and cute, but is quite safe and does not have much distinct style or power.

Because of that, I congratulate the Macross staff because they found two artists who could shine beside each other without overshadowing the other. Yin and Yang :)

    @mai -> nice point of view.. :) so you’re a half-Filipina too.. :D

  11. mai Says:

    Oops, that’s a mistake (I’d say a parallelism/grammar mistake) - I’m 100% 8)

  12. Allen Says:

    i see, i thought u’re a half-filipina too.. :D 100% pinay ka pala.. (hehe) :)

  13. Naru Says:

I don’t know who that Filipino singer is, but when I saw the video I thought that she did look half Filipino. That or maybe from Okinawa, but I looked it up.

Now I get more confused to know that Gabriela Robin (or mai?) is a 100% Filipina and is currently living in the Philippines, and gets up-to-date info about Macross and Japan.

    Just.. cool beans (O_O)

    Hehe.

To Allen: Are you Allen Dizon? Just guessing. LOL.

  15. mai Says:

@ Emu - I’m not Gabriela Robin, that’s Kanno’s alleged writing and pseudonym. I used to focus this site around Gabriela, but thought it’s also fun to report Kanno stuff. :)

  16. peachberry_tea Says:

bah, gabriela robin = YK for all intents/purposes
i think of this site as a YK fansite more actually cuz that’s what we talk about here :D

  17. peachberry_tea Says:

    @mai’s comment from july24

popular artists’s recordings are very heavily edited.. none of the artists actually sound as good live compared to recordings.. not because they can’t sing, but because it’s pretty much impossible to ever sound like the actual recording no matter how good u are.. not even celine dion can sing a recordnig quality song live (trust me on this one)

hmm but as far as jpop goes.. ikimonogakari’s recordings are barely edited.. so if you’d like you could try and compare that to what a polished edited recording sounds like :)

  18. mai Says:

@ peachberry_tea - I agree with that, artists sometimes don’t sound the same way they do on record. I was just wondering why you replied this regarding my previous comment?

  19. peachberry_tea Says:

@mai oooh cuz you were saying Diamond Crevasse is a very difficult song to sing live.. so i thought i’d add my take on how it’s pretty hard to sing live in general.. and so live singing doesn’t really compare with recorded singing

guess not everyone can read my mind so i shoulda explained myself -.-

now that i read ur msg again i think i kinda missed the point of ur post and just went on babbling on my own.. dododo

  20. mai Says:

    @ peachberry_tea - oh okay, I get it :)

  21. Em Says:

Now I got it. Thanks for the clarification! (^_^) More power to this site!

  22. Telperien Says:

Very nice performance and very close to the recorded version. Much better than most of the new comer who can’t sing live.
