Maaya Sakamoto to Appear in Macross F Episode 13? (updated 2)
Update: It’s true! She voiced Ranka’s mother. *put tons of speculations here about Ranka’s mother*

(Pats self on the back for lame Photoshop hair job) This rumor has been around for weeks now, but I couldn’t get my hands on where the official source is, so I couldn’t relay it as news. Episode 13 is just around the corner and we’ll get to verify if she does make an appearance in the animation.
In the CD liner notes of Macross F OST 1 - Nyan Fro, it is mentioned that [translation by Gubaba]:
“The theme song for “Triangler,” the MBS trendy drama depicting the lives of Lt. Hikaru Ichijo, Captain Misa Hayase, and Lynn Minmay, the heroes of Space War I. Among other things, the opening “Ki~mi wa~da~re~to~ki~su o su~ru~” [“Who are you going to kiss”] won the Popular Saying Grand Prize, making it a true social phenomenon. The singer, Sakamoto Maaya, is an up-and-coming Zentradi Musical actress.”
So it’s entirely possible that she makes an appearance as a Zentran singing this song in the animation.
What just struck me is that it is quite possible now that they are going to reveal the new intro song “Lion”, because Triangler will be used inside the animation, and it might be redundant if we hear it also in the intro.

I find it interesting, and funny, that they’re making Maaya Sakamoto a Zentradi songstress - which means that she’ll a) finally get a role in the show whose OP she’s been singing the past three months, and b) she’ll be as big news in-universe as she is out of it among anime song fans.
Besides, I want to see what happens if she’s a MACRONIZED singer…

No, she was, her name is in the credits under “Ranshe Mei” and listening back, the only person that could possibly be was Ranka’s mother - I don’t remember any other people in the episode talking who were female and that we don’t know already. She said “No, you’re wrong, it’s…” in case you don’t remember

@Pippa - If you notice, I put “update 2″ because I initially thought that I didn’t hear Maaya’s voice, nor did I see her animated in it. So I updated it again when I verified that Ranshe Mei is voiced by Maaya (look at the very top of the post
).
@ZS - it makes sense that she (her character) wrote the lyrics of Aimo, and if you read the spoilers you do know what the song “Aimo” is in the context of the story, and why perhaps Brera Sterne knows the song too
So I guess Ranka’s mother “Ranshe Mei” and the Zentradi “Sakamoto Maaya” are two different characters.
And it also makes sense that they have similar voices. *__*
