UPDATE: Deadline is up, thank you for everyone who pitched in! The buzzer beaters are stormy panda’s Lion, and Dreambelieva’s Don’t be Late. With the amount of finished recordings, I’d say it was quite successful

I have set the deadline to October 21, 2009, because that’s the time we get to hear new music for the movie (and I bet this site will be busy). After the deadline and we have some free time, and if you guys still want to proceed, we could just resume it
I was going around Animesuki a few days ago and thought it would be interesting if we pulled up an effort to make a fan recording of English-translated versions of the Macross F songs. Anyone in? If there’s even just one singer willing to sing one song, we’ll do that. Otherwise, for now, please just post your take on the lyrics in the comments.
I also just made one a while ago for Ao no Ether. As expected, they’re not the direct translation, but I tried to keep the essence. I only tried to make it singable in the original phrasing. The first stanza was difficult, and it might sound weird, but I’m pretty sure the rest are okay. If anyone wants to sing this, I will mix it for you.

I don’t remember if I mentioned it before… but with some *links* I actually have the karaokes of some songs. Since I could NOT share them, I would volunteer to mix them. I have Ao no Ether, Infinity, Iteza, Nyan Nyan, Ranka’s DC, Aimo Tori no Hito, Anata no Oto, Ai Oboeteimasu ka Deculture.

I think, maybe, I’ll do something with Yousei. Since there doesn’t seem to be any karaoke version I was thinking about doing a piano arrangement. So we’ll see how it turns next month
By the way, great work on the lyrics Mai and BluWacky! That must not be easy to find the right sentences so they can fit the rhythm and the notes of the melody.

I prefer that someone makes the lyrics of Yousei, because I’m not quite fluent in English… And honestly, I don’t think I’m very skilled in writing any lyric ^^

The only thing I can think of for “dokun” is maybe “ba-dum” with a long “u” sound (like the u in dokun). It’s the usual English onomatopaeia for a heartbeat I think, and it fits the sort of folk-like feel of the song.
But sticking with dokun might be better, I dunno

Gosh English and Japanese is hard to match up. Good job on the efforts lyricists. I think I like Northern Cross best out of the recordings up so far. I’m impressed with everyone’s singing though, very nice.

OK, I mixed the two lyrics together and changed a word here or there to make it easier to sing. Since we’ve all got how it should flow inside our heads I’m just going to go for it and give it a go. The mix of lyrics is pretty much 50-50 between both theeternalmine and Riepert though (with me switching a word or two to try and make it flow better in my brain) Hopefully everyone will be happy with the results

If you would like me to mix everything, just send me mp3s of all the harmonies (if any). Say you will use 3 voices, then you could send me 3 mp3s. But I’d say, many people like to mix the songs themselves, so I think you might want to try the software first and see if you’re comfortable with it

I was trying it out a little, and I have a question about how to make the recorded vocals a bit…fuller? Straight recorded, it sounds rather flat and simply..karaoke-ish xD. Just wondering if there was a way or effect(s) to make the vocals blend in and sound more like a part of the song, if you know what I mean ^.^;; Thanks in advance!

@mik0 – I use Adobe Audition to mix, so I’m not the expert on Audacity, but you could try using the Reverb effect to make it sound like you’re inside a nice room or hall:

It was all a bit of an accident actually. About 7pm last night I was like ‘I wanna write something’. Two hours later and this was being uploaded to the internet XD inspiration struck! I’m glad you’re all liking it (you’re making me embarrassed haha!) I basically hijacked spoony into it by using first, asking later. I wish the mic quality was better but what can ya do, eh? Also…this will be my last recording for a while as I’m going to be on a homestay in Japan from the beginning of October for two months ^^;; consider this a good bye gift!
@Naddie: don’t say that! Never lose the will to sing (TT) especially when I like their voice as much as I do yours!! Spoony used the piano sheet music from the ‘Kazeyomi’ piano book to make the music. He’s got a few other songs from that album up at http://maayas.net in the Kazeyomi thread.

@raile: I’m glad you liked it!! Chocolate chips??! ^^ the lyrics were the hardest part actually. I have a lot of respect for the people writing the ones for this project!! I didn’t think it would be as tricky to fill up the word space as it was and still keep it in line with the original track. yay!

Both Ao No Ether’s were beautifully done. I also enjoyed Pippa’s rendition of it just as well but I wish you had a better mic ;_; I’ll lend you my mic next time XD But Pippa, you really did put a lot of emotion in your version, it was wonderful, I give you a lot of credit for that

Thanks DeX-kun. I don’t really know why the quality was particularly bad on Ao no Ether because usually (although it’s a little off) it’s a lot better. I think it was something to do with recording in a different room/position and the mic being a different distance…? Oh I don’t know. Weep! But thanks >_<VVV

Haha, yeah, I knew you thought I was a guy cos earlier you referred to me as “He” and I thought “hehe, she’s gonna be surprised when she hears my entry.” And listening to it back makes me realise how much I must sound like a chipmunk!
Sorry for the rubbish quality, I only realised the next day that I was recording using the wrong microphone (the mic embedded in the laptop rather than the one that was plugged in). Actually that might be why the Ao no Ether recording was so fuzzy too.

O this idea is so cool! The english translations are perfect! Northern cross is crazy. Kudos to 3Force. My favorite is ao no ether’s (as always) XD Both versions are stuck in my head now. I keep singing them everywhere I go hahaha. Great job kirei&pippa!

@stormy_panda – sorry about that, I actually ignored a lot of things last week. As I’ve said before, duplicates are okay, the monitoring above is just to perhaps prioritize those that don’t have anyone working on it at all. I’d love to hear you do both

lol I’m back! I’m 80% done with my version of Shinkuu no Diamond Crevasse, but I’m having a little trouble with the mixing x3 never done that before. Can anyone point me towards a tutorial or something that could explain how to get the pretty echo-y effect that Goliath has in her version? I’m using Audacity :3

And just now, when I tried to start working on Infinity again… the internal microphone isn’t working. I don’t have an external one and don’t know when/if i can get one =.= So fail.
