Animax’s Third Japan Anime Song Grand Prix
I just stumbled on this, and it looks like the American Idol of anime music 
Apparently, the winner of this contest will be given a contract to sing for an anime, and the previous winner Himeka sang the OP to Valkyria:
I think she sounds quite good 
Some of the current contenders can be listened to on the official Animax Anime Song Grand Prix page. As you see I’m late in announcing this, so only the Tokyo and Sapporo performances are still listenable, and web voting is still open. The winners (from judging) of all of the locations already listed, but web voting is still open as of today for Sapporo and Tokyo. Someone from Tokyo sang Diamond Crevasse, I thought it was okay, but could have been better. I’m also sorry to say that I listened to “Issei no Sei” from Sapporo and it was heartfelt but the tone needs some work.
Hands up, who would have tried out for this if it happened where they live?

That’s funny, the girl singing Diamond Crevasse seems to have something on her tongue…
Anyway, I wouldn’t have tried out that contest because I prefer those organized by Mai! ^^

And for those who watch Music Japan from NHK there will be a Anison special where May’n is going to sing. For details go to the NHK page. It’s planned for someday in August.

It was announced on the Oricon site. It’s programmed to air on Aug 16th it seems. Check the MJ blog at their site.

Himeka is singing too. Mizuki Nana and a lot of others too. It surprised me that Himeka is 28! I thought she was younger. But she has a lovely voice. I mean the single she released was not so good but her voice is really good. Maybe working with Kanno would be good for her.

A Canadian, eh? She looks kinda weird - I think it’s because they did a Leah Dizon on her and tried to make her look more Japanese. 0_o I like the song and her voice though! It’s really nice.

I’ve just been reading the HIMEKA thread over at Jpopmusic and apparently she forgot the lyrics on her first tv appearance T_T poor girl. Must be pretty stressful.

The girl who sang Diamond Crevasse wasn’t bad, but I think her voice doesn’t really fit the song :/
About the Music Japan NHK special - I’ve been really looking forward to it since I like most of the artists involved. I’m really curious of hearing HIMEKA’s Aquarion cover too!
Anyway it shouldn’t be too hard to find after it airs. I’ve always found recordings for Nana Mizuki’s performances there before, so I’m sure someone will upload the whole thing

May’n is the first performer. Only Don’t be late and Asu e no kizuna were shown. I suppose an extended version of the special is supposed to air on a later date (wouldn’t know when).
At 30:30 May’n and HIMEKA appear together with the host, Nana and Minami. There’s a cute clip of May’n singing on a tv show when she was 11. Himeka gets teary because she’s on the same stage as her idol Nana Mizuki :), then it’s her turn to perform.
