Macross OST 1 Debuts in Oricon Weekly Charts At #3

Today, OST 1 debuted in the the Oricon weekly rankings at #3 with 71633 units sold. It’s also fair to note that before Macross F OST 1, the last anime OST that made it to the top 3 in Oricon was the End of Evangelion soundtrack, 11 years ago.

Cheers for the Macross/Kanno/Sakamoto/May’n/Megumi/and everyone else communities :)

For the weekly rankings, it’s still #3, but for daily, it’s #2. Is there still hope to get to #2 in the weekly rankings? Hmmm. Buy everyone! Buy it! Buy for your friends too if you can :P

There were tons of debuts, and it’s really tougher to top the Albums charts than the Singles. At least it got to #2.

I do note that Macross 7 was fairly successful on the charts, and that last 10 year gap, wow. Eva albums also tore up the charts.

I can’t believe that the Evangelion OST 2 one had 81,000 sales and landed itself on the 4th only!

Recent technology allowing people to download music have generally led to an over-all decline in CD sales all over the world, so I would say that Macross F getting up there is a success parallel to what the Evangelion OSTs achieved.

The OST dropped to 6th on the 2nd week, but at least it’s on top of Kat-tun. There are 4 albums that debuted this week. Without the debuts, it would have been second to Minmi’s album.
