Macross Frontier OST 1 Debuts in Oricon at #2 (updated)

Gosh, one rank shy of the top, but I suppose 50 thousand more album sales for Kat-tun is too tough to beat. Anyway, of 8 debuts in the top 10, being ranked the second overall isn’t too bad!

Let’s see how it fares in the weekly rankings, I’d say it’ll take either ranks 2 or 3 :)

The release of the album also made it to Oricon’s headlines.

From the news (and my little knowledge of Japanese, someone help me :P) it seems that the highest ranking Kanno ever got in Oricon before Macross F was #44 for CMYoko, and the Macross OST making it at #2 is somehow ground breaking for her career. How bad were her sales for the previous OSTs? Or is it just that the other OSTs were not given to her name because they were shared works with other composers?

I assume its because tv/anime osts (although a large niche for otaku) never sell enough to get into the top 50 etc. so, it’s pretty cool Kanno finally broke it this year!

The soundtrack already dropped way off the daily rankings (I can’t even find it), so I doubt it will even make it to the top 10 in the weekly Oricon chart. :(

  4. izumi_konata Says:

First off, the soundtrack is still at No. 3 on the daily charts, though the index figure is about half of what it was on Wednesday. However, this is normal performance and will probably increase over the weekend. The numbers you see next to the top 3 are not actually sales numbers, but and index figure. Multiply the total by 1.75 and you get a reasonably accurate idea of how many units have sold. (As of today, that estimate is 44k) From what i’ve seen of trends from day to day, I’d say that Yoko will end up with 60~70k by the end of the week and this soundtrack will sell over 150k by the time it’s off the top 200. A very impressive feat indeed. But hey … it IS Macross. ^_^

Today it’s 3rd, why you can’t find it?

Damn she’s going to smash her record for the Bebop MOvie OST, she’s already at 19-20k after two days.

  7. Westlo Says:

Make that 25k after 3 days, she did 5132 on day 3 and ranked at #3 again. So Macross Frontier outsold what the Bebop Movie ost did in its first week in just 3 days time.

  8. jason Says:

Weird, I didn’t see the Mac F OST on the daily chart before. Guess I need new glasses. :P

  9. mai Says:

It’s still at #3! That’s good :) Sorry for the lack of updates, I came from a short vacation :P

  10. mai Says:

@yy - thanks for those figures :) I’m wondering why they aren’t indexed in Oricon.

I don’t mind purchasing imports when the music is THIS good.

I can’t wait for the ost and singles to arrive.

  12. izumi_konata Says:

It’s official. Macross F OST I is the #3 album for the week and the first anime soundtrack in nearly 11 years to place that high (last one was the OST for ‘The End of Evangelion’). Overall sales for the week was 71,633.

It actually moved up to No.2 today, though Monday sales are usually very light. When it has to compete with new releases tomorrow we’ll get a better idea of just how much staying power it has. My guess is that it will do about half of it’s first week sales (around 30~35k) which will make it gold certified in two weeks.

Major kudos to Kanno, Maaya, Megumi & May’n & the whole Macross F staff!
