June 2009 Newtype Kanno 7/7 Feature
UPDATE: I was able to transcribe about 99% of the main article’s text (I didn’t bother to do the works list and the related artists text since they’re a bit blurred), and I understood about 60% of it, so I am posting a summary at the bottom of this page. If anyone is interested in my transcription, please email me.
Well I guess Kanno was also a columnist for Newtype for a while back then, so it’s good they made a feature of her. I got these from luote of YKFan (thank you!), and I was able to hunt down a scan that is clear enough that I can read it.
And there are some interesting images:

Ed wearing a chick outfit? WIN.

And Kanno in her usual attire, with some scribbles from artists she has worked with.
Summary of main text:
The compilation she’s doing right now is in no way a sign of retirement.
They have been talking about a live for more than 10 years now, but they were always busy. It happened that they’re miraculously free on 7/7, and so they looked for a place, and the only free one is in Saitama. She apologizes for the schedule which is a weekday, and the high price of the ticket, but it’s going to be worth it.
With the Warsaw Orchestra, there will be more than 100 people on stage at a time, and she jokes about being squeezed on stage. Her desire is to showcase the live performance of great artists, great performers, and that’s why they have shoved in so many people in the set list.
There won’t be any specific chronological order to music played in the 7/7 concert.
Then they talk a little bit about her. Apparently, she does pranks on certain members when there are live performances, and in this concert, she’s also thinking of doing one. Like having an artist come up in the wrong song. But then the member might also do a counter attack. And the live would be interesting that way.
Regarding the Bio Charge CD:
She did not really think of making 3 sets. It’s just that one piece reminds her of another piece, and that created the flow of the CD. The first one is “dramatic”, the second is “inner”, the third is “private”.
She may have worked with many animations, but in the beginning she had culture shock with anime. She didn’t watch nor read manga, so she was surprised when she first watched one on TV. However, because she was not familiar with the anime world, she was able to make music without being bound.
She says that this CD is like a business card, if anyone needs to know what her work is like, it’s like she can just show this CD and that would be enough.
Others:
The Bebop CD that specifically won the Japan Gold Disk is OST 1.

Nice picture
I want the piano Spike is playing! (nevermind…)
And there are chicks everywhere : Ed’s outfit and on top of Spike’s hair. Do we have to expect a Yoko Kanno in a chick outfit at the concert ? (LOL, if that ever happens, I wish I never said that)

Love those chickens!!! Ed looks really funny and Spike, with the little bird in the head.
And Ein like trying to say: hey, Spike you’re missing some notes!

I think I’m going crazy, three people in a row with initials of “P”, and the sound of a bird in Japanese “pi-pi-pi”
I need to sleep.
