Maaya Sakamoto Triangler Single Review
purchase the album through CDJapan
So there, this is going to be short and sweet, as most of us have heard how Triangler sounds from the PV anyway. And lo and behold, it also sounds like that on record! Oh but seriously, the song has really grown on me and reminded me of one of the lead characters in the animation, Ranka Lee. It’s youthful, energetic, and the synth mixes in well with the real instruments.

Kotomichi, composed and arranged by Michiko Takada, is very pretty and emotional, and as I’ve said in another board, it’s probably what Maaya fans expected Kanno to write for their reunion song. The piano and Maaya’s voice is very soothing, and that high pitch Maaya reaches towards the end? Goosebumps!

I liked this song on first listen, so I would say I think it’s better than Triangler. I would assume that if Maaya and Kanno would make a song again outside of the Macross F context, it might sound like this. But as it does not fit in as a Macross F intro song, we’ll have to reserve hearing that for… hopefully, a next reunion!
(Oh, perhaps you guys already know that there are instrumental versions/karaoke versions of the two songs, so I won’t comment about them. But I just did.)
Here’s a sample of Kotomichi for all of you. Enjoy!

By the way, I kinda miss maayas.net, I wonder what happened to the forum?

You already got your copy of Triangler?! You lucky bastard. Mine just shipped from CD Japan, but I probably won’t get it till the end of the week. Wait, I just realized you probably downloaded the single off the net.
So the c/w song sounds like it was composed by Kanno, even though a different composer actually worked on it?
BTW, maayas.net is back up if you didn’t noticed already. Merri was out of town and just returned.

I thought that kotomichi was written by another composer ?

Kotomichi is indeed from another composer.

Yeah, back when I ordered it I too thought Kanno composed it… oh well, still an excellent song and Maaya really shines in it.
Also, I think you might have to consider renaming your website, mai. Acording to the sleeve Triangler’s lyrics were written by “Gabrieala Robin”.

Yes, it’s from a different composer, I mentioned in a previous post, but I didn’t mention here. That’s why I said, “I would assume that if Maaya and Kanno would make a song again outside of the Macross F context, it might sound like this.” The song Triangler is for Macross F, Kotomichi isn’t. I actually assumed that everyone knew that Kotomichi isn’t Kanno’s.
I’ll try to make my post clearer later.
@Pulz - Really, what a typo!!!
EDIT: I’ve added “composed and arranged by Michiko Takada” in this post to avoid confusion. Thanks for the feedback, I didn’t realize that I was making a confusing sentence there.

@jason - I’m not purchasing this CD, actually, but I’ll definitely get my hands on the OST 1
