Aimo - Macross Frontier Episode 3

Ranka Lee’s character sang “Aimo” in the third episode of Macross Frontier. One major difference, aside from being longer, is that this version uses a celesta/piano (or is that a harp?) instrument with a light orchestra instead of a harmonica as the background. I hope this one makes it to the OST 1. I am also hearing that interval of five that has been used in the Macross Plus theme (also in the Brain Powerd ending theme).
EDIT: TV rip sample removed due to bandwidth constraints.
It sounds like a mixture of Japanese and non-Japanese language, though where one starts and the other ends, I am not sure of. Anyone around here who could give a comment on how much Japanese is there in the song?
It sounds to me like the first two lines are gibberish, then the next ones are Japanese.

Sorry I lost my internet connection when I was uploading the episode 3 rips :’( But it came back this morning
That’s ok, please use it ^^
April 20th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Oh, and I’m pretty sure it’s a harp.

Waaaah I really can’t wait for the OST & the OP ED singles. Why is it so far away still? *whines*

April 21st, 2008 at 4:45 am
OMG thank you so much! You’re awesome

Love this song, is so beautiful, so haunting…..
the backdrop of a solemn military funeral just makes me sniff.
i can’t wait for the full song.

I hope this song won’t be in the OST 1 !
If it’s not in it, that would mean there will be an OST2
I hope there will be the fewest possible songs in each OST so that there could be as many OSTs as it’s possible ^^
But beside that vision of mine I really want to listen to the full version of Aimo (and every other song !!!)

Thank you Yyrkoon, you just made my day (with the mp3 and the OST 2 thing)! hahaha
@djsilt - the ones in episode 3 are more impressive. There’s this fight song, it’s amazing and very tense!
@knynja - glad to be of assistance

April 22nd, 2008 at 5:38 am
It’s not yet available anywhere

I heard that the entire series was only going to be 13 episodes. Is that really true? The 25th anniversary special is only 13 episodes long?
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:31 am
I heard it’s going to be around 26 episodes. Let’s just wait and see. I think 13 is too short.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:37 am
It’s planned to be 25 eps, according to numerous Japanese magazines. This is what someone else told me.
April 24th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Then it’s 25 then
It’s a good number, 13 is too short, 50 too long (bad quality ensues too). 25 is the “Goldilocks number” for TV series

Perhaps the first chunk of the song is Zentran? It would make sense, with Ranka being a quarter Zentraedi, that her family would have songs done up in Zentran.
April 25th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I honestly don’t know how Kanno makes these lyrics, but it would make sense if she intended them to be how Zentran sounds like!
April 28th, 2008 at 8:18 am
mai: Interesting idea. This could be Zentran - or just very pretty.
And this version appears, sans lyrics, in the end of Episode 4 as well to lead up to the lyrics. As a signature song, I rather like it… and it’s a good way to taper off towards the end of the show. I find it… nostalgic? Melancholy? A bit of both? Can’t quite describe it. But it fits the show nicely, IMO.

Yeah, im pretty sure the whole song is Japanese. The first line saying about someone is sleeping or something like that.
May 13th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I don’t think so…”netelusche” doesn’t sound Japanese at all. Megumi Nakajima also commented that Kanno coached her in pronouncing this song, and I suppose she won’t do that if it were Japanese. These set of lyrics seem good to me though:

Hmm, If the lyric said ‘netelusche’ then its definitely not Japanese
May 14th, 2008 at 11:54 am
someone of the line written in katakana, which means its from a foreign language. I mistaken netelu as neteilu (sleeping)
May 14th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
That’s not the official lyrics though, so we’ll have to wait for the OST 1 and check the lyrics there.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:59 am
oh well, cant wait for Aimo full-length version
May 20th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
hi guys, i’ve just finished watching ep7 and i cant help but feel that i’ve heard the ED song aimo from a previous macross series. i think its macross zero. can anyone confirm this? and i think aimo was included in the 2002 macross ost.
May 21st, 2008 at 5:05 am
the lyrics could be just gibberish, words that just fit the music.. kanno has used gibberish lyrics before and is known for it
so it’d be a fair bet that the lyrics aren’t in any particular language and is just “gibberish”
May 21st, 2008 at 9:07 am
@Ashton: It’s not in Macross Zero, I also watched that. Maybe you’re just thinking of Macross F’s first episode, because it was also played as the first episode ending song of Macross Frontier. If anything, this song sounds similar to another Yoko Kanno song from Macross Plus, “Voices”.
@peachberry: yes, gibberish. I’m surprised that some people don’t “know” the artist this website is dedicated to.
May 21st, 2008 at 12:38 pm
@mai: thanks for the heads up. did a check and yes aimo was ’sung’ by ranka in ep 1 ed & 3. and i’m gonna kick myself for deleting the song “voices” coz i thought it was just…gibberish (at first) =\ . and yes, eerily familier, maybe thats where i could have thought i heard aimo. cheers!
