May’n in Nachuu Yobanashi “Anime Song Night Kaisai”
UPDATE UPDATE: I found a few more artist/staff blogs that discussed the recording. May’n performed 3 songs, though I’m not sure if they’re all from Macross as she’s already done the OP to Shangri-La too, but one of the blogs said that she did perform a Macross song.
May’n's Blog, Kagura’s Blog and the NHK site describe a little more about the event. Apparently, there is a composers feature in the second episode (May 29 / June 1) entitled “New Generation Composers Night”, which discusses Yoko Kanno and Satoru Kousaki, whose works both have a huge fanbase, and also Kouhei Tanaka. If you look at Kousaki’s work, you’ll notice that he is popular for making music that produces lots of viral songs.
Miyabi-tan’s blog. She says she doesn’t know much about Kanno, but she got interested in the discussion. She got the impression that she makes mysterious music. She said that both composers (Tanaka and Kousaki) said that Kanno is a genius.
Kouhei Tanaka’s Blog has pictures of the guests, and one with May’n.
Another entry from Kouhei Tanaka’s Blog containing some of his comments about Kanno. He likes her work, but he thinks he might have not been able to represent/describe her well in the show. They talked about Platina, Escaflowne, Macross, and had a focus on Lion.
Shunichi Karasawa’s Blog talks about the event as a whole.
(I think they might have wanted to pull Kanno herself to talk, but she’s a busy girl you know
)
May’n is included in the list of guest artists present for the Nachuu Yobanashi “Anime Song Night Kaisai” (Mania Night Talks “Anime Song Night Presentation”) on the NHK-BS2/BSHi Channel. Alongside her are Ichirou Mizuki, Mitsuko Horie, Yoshiki Fukuyama, Kouhei Tanaka, and Satoru Kousaki.
From what I could read, this will be a special that encompasses old and new anime songs and music, and they have seasoned and fresh vocalists and composers alike in their guest list. Also from Wanna be a Wind, gliss writes that Kouhei Tanaka will make a commentary on Kanno’s music. Interesting isn’t it?
For those people planning to watch using live streaming or other methods, the schedules in Japan time are:
BS2: May 22 and 29, 22:00-20:44 hours (10:00-10:44pm)
BShi: May 25 and June 1, 17:00-17:44 hours (5:00-5:44pm)

Is that… Candy Candy?

Yes, yes!!! Is Candy Candy. OMG, what a remembers of my childhood.
I can see Spike, Harlock and Saphire, from Ribbon no Kishi. And i think the other one is Usagi from Sailor Moon. Mitsuko Horie sang the main theme of Candy.

Mmm, Fukuyama really likes those cowboy shirts XD.

Haha I would’ve loved to watch that – if only I can understand what’s being said
And of course Kanno is a genius xD

@Naddie-I’ll watch even if I don’t understand, that’s for sure.
@Saouri- it suits him though
Aniki also always wears that red coat of his. He’s like an anime character, always seen wearing the same thing! I think they have an “image” that goes with the costume

>_< Sailor Moooon! That’s a classic anime song for sure. What is it? Moonlight…something. I remember teaching my Japanese friends the American version at karaoke one night. “Lum’s Love Song” is my all time favorite. What else? oH! CardCaptor Sakura theme song…eee! I’m getting nostalgic thinking about all of these.
I think the Bebop theme is classic, but it has to catchy words to sing.

Yes, Mai, i know that some artist in Japan are more “characters” than “persons” XD. To me is familiar the red jacket from Aniki, because i saw some “Super Robots Spirit” concerts. My surprise with Fukuyama is that, even if i love to listen Fire Bomber songs from Macross 7, just few months ago i saw my first video of Fukuyama singing. And yesterday, before come to your blog, i was watching at youtube the live-video of “Angel’s Voice” duet with Chie Kaijura (Mylene’s voice) and… his shirt looks the same ^___^
Naru, i think is Moonlight Densetsu.
Thanks for the update of the post.
