The Escaflowne Karaoke Challenge! (Finished)
UPDATE: So our third karaoke challenge ends, and it’s also well-participated in! It received about half the amount of entries from the Macross F challenge, which is a very good number if you ask me, and I’m so happy it turned out like this. Thank you for everyone who submitted!!! I believe our hands will be full for the next 2 or 3 months, so if we’re going to start another karaoke, it would be after that time. So, until then, see you around!

So we start! This is our third karaoke challenge, hope we get as much response as the Macross F ones

The song can be any song from Escaflowne and bonus tracks in Escaflowne singles, even those not involving Kanno. You can even do the chants if you want to. In short, do whatever.The website management will reserve the right to reject entries that are inappropriate (not Escaflowne, obscene, etc).

LOL, mai, I feel the same. You sound so awesome @_@ I love Sora.
I think Pippa’s gonna OWN this – she is, after all, Maaya in her past life xD
I’m so excited for this! I’m looking forward to all your entries
March 21st, 2009 at 10:09 pm
I’m a bit proud of that recording, because it only took one take and my pitch was not so off!!! The echo does wonders
I’m looking forward to your entries too
March 21st, 2009 at 10:22 pm
mai, don’t sell yourself short, you really sound wonderful, even if that echo is not there
(And ahaha thank you, I hope… I deliver? I don’t even know)
March 21st, 2009 at 10:38 pm
well, record now!!! (in case you don’t already have a recording lying around there somewhere…)
March 21st, 2009 at 10:38 pm
hey, that was really nice, mai! looks like it’s time to take a re-listen to Escaflowne tracks
March 21st, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Aw man, it looks like I have some expectations to fill here then and I haven’t even posted anything yet!!!! XD
Mai you sound really good *_* sooo nice!
March 21st, 2009 at 10:49 pm
@fugue – send one too!!!
@Pippa – Thanks! And yes, I was thinking of you specifically XD
March 22nd, 2009 at 1:35 am
Is there a list of all the escaflowne songs somewhere online? It’s been awhile since I’ve watched that show.
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:36 am
@Alex, try James’ page, search for Escaflowne:
http://www.jameswong.com/ykproject/disc/music.php
March 22nd, 2009 at 8:54 am
Goliath’s killer Neko no Kimochi and Sora have been added!!! This time, when searching for new songs, they will be towards the bottom of the list as they are marked with the dates they are uploaded.
March 22nd, 2009 at 10:26 am
Oh God, Goliath, your voice has never failed to amaze me – you have so many different ranges. Your Neko no Kimochi is AWESOME. It’s hard to sound cute & wonderful at the same time! And Sora was great!
And that is also extremely fast xD
(@mai: I don’t have any recordings lying around yet xD I have been a bit busy lately ;_; )
March 22nd, 2009 at 12:54 pm
OMG Goliath’s voice is soooo amazing!!!!!!
to Goliath san, where did you find the instrumental of sora?
I wanna sing the song, too ^+^
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Mai your sora is beautiful T_T
Thanks guys!!^^;
I took the midis of the songs and changed them little bit with my software. I can make it sound more like real instruments and I can add or erase some notes
March 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Neko no Kimochi is so amazing. Goliath, could that be that you’re Gabriela Robin’s sister or someone like that? ^^
EDIT : I just remembered that was not Gabriela Robin who sang the original but whatever
March 22nd, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Oohh… three wonderful songs were already uploaded
Nice work, Goliath, mai
I want to sing something, but not now I guess, my throat is still sore D: The deadline is still soooo far away, so I think I could send some entries
Yay for another karaoke challenge!
March 22nd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
I’ll be waiting for everyone’s entries
March 23rd, 2009 at 12:10 am
I think I’ll try Yubiwa and Perfect World.
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:56 am
Yay!!!
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Naddie’s Empty the Pocket is up!!! Great work! (as expected!)
I will just bump this post when it gets off the front page
I want to sing another song, but my braces just got adjusted and it hurts
March 24th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Naddie’s Poketto wo kara ni shite is really great, please sing another song ^^
March 24th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
@mai – ouch, braces!!! the ulcers, the aching teeth T_T
@goliath – i like your take on Sora.
@naddie – uwah~
March 24th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
@mai: how long does it usually take for the braces thing to not hurt, anyway?
Sing mooooorrreeee.
@Yyrkoon: Thank you! ^^ And… hopefully I can, lol. I’ve so many things due but this is gonna be here for a while so…
@fugue: Lol, I hope that’s a good uwah~?
March 24th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
yup, a GOOD uwah~
March 25th, 2009 at 10:15 am
@Naddie – I’ll give it a week more, then maybe I’ll try something
March 25th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
@Pippa: What’s there to worry about? You have a huge head start since you’ve already got two Escaflowne songs as part of The Other Side of Lucy (Yubiwa & Poketto wo kara ni shite). mai should just add those to the list. Of course if you decide to sing more Escaflowne, I won’t complain. (*cough cough Hikari No Naka E cough*).
March 26th, 2009 at 5:45 am
This one’s awesomely exciting!!! Goliath’s songs are beautiful and her voice shows tremendous versatility! Mai’s Sora is very haunting and Naddie’s Pocket is really awesome, as per the norm!
Want to take part but just developed a cold (again), see how it goes… Not even sure what songs guys can sing haha.
March 26th, 2009 at 8:39 am
@Jason: very true
but that’s cheating!! I’ve been thinking about ‘Hikari no naka e’ but I’m not sure how clean the karaoke track would come out. But I’m pretty flattered you’d pull me out on it ^^V (was listening back to The Other Side of Lucy album yesterday, it’s been a while and I was pleasantly surprised by it haha)
March 26th, 2009 at 10:28 am
@Pippa – I’ll take in anything you send, even old ones, as long as you send them to me just for formality
@Maskerade – try “If You”, “Perfect World” or “Mystic Eyes”?
March 26th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
@Pippa: That album was pretty darn good! As Naddie says, Maaya in your past life
@Mai: Uh huh, was thinking “If You”. I just have to be emo enough
March 28th, 2009 at 4:40 am
Mai you told me once about some way to remove the voices in a song to obtain a kind of karaoke version, could you remind what that is please ?
March 28th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Here, you can try downloading this free software:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
then do this to remove the center channel / middle vocals:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=editing&i=remove-vocals
I’ve tried it before and it works okay, but it doesn’t remove all the voice. You could just turn the volume of the backing track down when you sing XD
March 28th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Yeah it only works very well on certain songs – most Kanno songs or any other Japanese songs don’t clean up too well
(Because there are so many layers lol.) Can’t wait to hear your entry, Yyrkoon
March 29th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Hey a male yubiwa!
YOu did great!!!
I also wanna sing it, but it`s not so much for my voice, but now I`m so motivated xD
What do you use for recording, sounds so clean?
March 29th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Alex, you did great!
I love the harmonies! Especially loved the last chorus.
And have to agree with goliath, your recording sounds so clean~
March 29th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
@Naddie: Yubiwa 75% finished, I think it’ll be done in a few days then
Great job Alex, it seems everyone agrees ^^
March 30th, 2009 at 1:33 am
Oh wow alex, you sound like some kind of prince of Jrock or someone XD good job. It’s refreshing to hear Yubiwa by a man. I like!! Naddie and Goliath you sound so good!! Naddie you’re perfect as Maaya, what a cute Poketto!! And Goliath as usual is amazing *_*
March 30th, 2009 at 1:45 am
@everyone: Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I recorded with a blue snowball condenser mic (http://www.bluemic.com/products/snowball). It’s the cheapest condenser mic I could find. Also since it’s USB-powered, I don’t have to worry about preamps and phantom power. but one thing bad about USB-powered is that you don’t have any gain control. Also it doesn’t have any ASIO drivers, so you’ll have to use ASIO4all to get it working with Audition, Cubase, or Sonar. It works fine with Audacity, since that uses WDM drivers.
March 30th, 2009 at 4:44 am
Ah sorry naddie, I forgot to say something to your song xD
It is great! I`m afraid to sing a maaya songs with you and Pippa around ^^;
March 30th, 2009 at 5:16 am
Goliath you have nothing to worry about seriously, you’re amazing!! I just sent my song into Mai
hope its alright. I did it in one take because a) its embarrassing to sing around my housemates and b) the song is one that needs to be quite pure T_T anyhoo, all-natural Pippa on the way!!
March 30th, 2009 at 9:52 am
@Yyrkoon: Lol, 75%
Can’t wait xD
Mai still haven’t updated with your entry yet, so I will sit here patiently and comment till she does hehe. (No pressure mai!)
@Alex: WOW – a snowball mic! That stuff is EXPENSIVE. But well worth the money, I’d say.
@Goliath: Lol it’s okay ^^ Honestly you’re much better at singing than I am, so there’s nothing to worry about xD Please send in Yubiwa, I’d like to hear you sing it
@Pippa: Thank you, but no one can beat you
March 30th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
@all – KT’s and Pippa’s works are up!
@KT – if you’re reading, I still have your Yubiwa, but it does look corrupted halfway in… unless it’s only about 2 minutes long? I sent you an email
March 30th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
@KT: You’ve a sweet voice
Wish we could hear it more!
@Pippa: ;_____; Just. ;_______________; GAH. I wish I could sound half as good as you. No, a quarter? (Donate a quarter of your voice to me, yes?) I dare say you sound as great (or even better) than the original…
March 30th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
LOL naddie you don’t have to be moved to tears hahahahah
thank you T_T it makes me happy to be well received! CALL YOUR NAME is harder than it seems!! But really Naddie, you have no need to worry
sounding amazing is you!
March 30th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
@Naddie: Thankyou!
it only sounded half as good coz I had Maaya-san backing me up….wait till u hear my version of Yubiwa without her….><
Please sing more!
And by the way your voice is beautiful….I always find my voice to be kinda annoying….I wish I had the maturity of your voice! ^.^
@Pippa: OMG!!!! I love your voice!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
@all – KT’s Yubiwa is up!!!
March 30th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
@Pippa: IN. LOVE.
@KT: That was a really nice voice!! And a good choice of song as well! Throughly enjoyed it!
@Alex: I liked it! Jrockish voice indeed
March 30th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
Maskerade: wow yubiwa is so good *_* good job!! Amazing!!
KT: you’ve got a really cute voice! Nice job
March 31st, 2009 at 3:46 am
@Naddie: the prices in the US are not so bad and it’s actually my brother’s. I steal it from him every weekend to record when the parents are out shopping. =P
@Maskerade: Wow. I love your energy and your harmonies. You definitely added your own style to the song. Love that ending.
March 31st, 2009 at 4:47 am
The latest entries sound great! This karaoke challenge is turning out awesome. I must say I like the results more than the Macross F karaoke challenges. Maybe I just I prefer the Escaflowne music… Anyways, I’m really glad KT sung Hikari No Naka E. We need to get each Esca song karaoke’d at least once. Anyone up to singing Yakusoku wa iranai?
As usual, Pippa’s singing is my favorite. Her version of Call Your Name surpassed my expectations. Sometimes I wonder if she was born in Japan and moved to the UK. Regardless, I am once again in awe of her singing. XD
March 31st, 2009 at 7:18 am
LOL at Jason, next time me and Jerome do something I’ll film it for you (am definitely not a Japanese person!!) ^^VV
I want someone to sing Mystic Eyes – it’s too low for me. Boys!! I demand Mystic eyes!
March 31st, 2009 at 7:33 am
Sometimes I wonder if Pippa isn’t Maaya at all
And filming the singing would be AWESOME!!!
@Pippa: Thanks for that! Praise from you is praise indeed!
@Alex: Thanks!! The harmonies did drive me nuts at times. But then again, they do it all the time.
March 31st, 2009 at 8:37 am
@all – Someone asked for Yakusoku wa Iranai? Naru has a new submission!
I’ll try something more obscure… perhaps “I recommend instincts”
EDIT: I can’t pull this off (but I’ll still try). I’d like to hear Naddie sing this one.
EDIT EDIT: Hey guys… “I recommend instincts” clears well with the karaoke filter!
March 31st, 2009 at 4:41 pm
i’ve just had a chance to listen to the newer entries. Maskerade’s Yubiwa rocks!
@mai – er, i don’t think i have “I recommend instincts”. i don’t even know what it sounds like *_*
March 31st, 2009 at 4:52 pm
haha, that song actually plays in the first episode, but only the instrumentals
March 31st, 2009 at 6:04 pm
@Alex: haha, since I live in Malaysia, anything that’s considered okay in US is automatically HOMG EXPENSIVE over here
@maskerade: Bwahhh, do I even need to say anything?! That was pitch perfect. I am so not singing that now, lol.
@mai: Awww, I love Tomodachi! I hate the fact that there are almost no instrumentals for most of these songs :’( …”I recommend instincts” huh? I like the song but I think the melody is kinda hard to get down xD I’ll try it though ^^ I tried Aceilux’s “Love” (I love the song hehe) and it was like murdering my throat to be honest, soooo maybe not, lol.
@Naru: Good job~ ^^ Why didn’t you mix it with the karaoke, though?
March 31st, 2009 at 7:51 pm
The reason no one noes I recommend instincts is because it’s rubbish
March 31st, 2009 at 7:51 pm
noes? Dear me Pippa, get an early night! By the way, what about ‘if you’ for one of the guys?? Mai Yamane’s voice is too low for me T_T
March 31st, 2009 at 7:54 pm
“If You” doesn’t clear well with the karaoke filter… but you could do that and shift the pitch higher right?
Does anyone need karaoke versions of the songs? I might be able to make some for download, I suppose I won’t get in trouble for stuff like that. Besides, they hardly clean well
March 31st, 2009 at 9:04 pm
wow, a song *that* obscure? and now Pippa’s talking about another obscure song? oh, dear… my Escaflowne knowledge sure is limited ^^;;
March 31st, 2009 at 9:23 pm
If You is a bit high for guys if sung at pitch – it goes up to a B flat (I think) in the “and if these tears turn to rain” line. Beautiful song.
I never take part in these because:
a) I’m a bloke
b) I butcher the Japanese language
c) My weird quasi-choirboy quasi-West End singing voice sounds hideous singing pop songs…
March 31st, 2009 at 9:33 pm
@BluWacky – I’d love to hear what c) sounds like
@all – for those who don’t have the means to remove vocals, or are feeling lazy for some reason, I made a few voice reduced files, please see the main post.
March 31st, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Pippa how dare youuuuu xD
The engrish does make me go o___O though – wouldn’t Julia actually be able to detect the engrish? Maybe they just went “oh well it adds authenticity to it!” haha
April 1st, 2009 at 12:38 am
@Naddie Thank you! But I don’t have anything. I recorded that on a friend’s laptop. ^^; mine laptop died….I’m gonna try and use Mai’s “Aoi Hitomi” next.
April 1st, 2009 at 3:54 am
@BluWacky – I’d also love to hear what (c) sounds like. You could get the Gregorian chants a shot. Plus there are alot of the english songs from Escaflowne. You don’t have to go for the pop songs, there are quite a few ballads too.
Heck, we should just gather all the guys and do the escaflowne chant. =P
April 1st, 2009 at 11:22 am
@Naddie – I also like the song, but singing the song is indeed funny because you want to correct it… or when you listen to yourself singing it, it sounds wrong, like, my grammar is wrong!!! XD
@all – I’m happy that it’s getting this response from everyone, even if it’s not really attracting new entrants. Hey, if anyone new is having second thoughts before sending because they think everyone is so good, I’ll send more of my singing to saturate it with average recordings
Give me a go signal and I’m on it.
April 5th, 2009 at 5:54 am
@mai – I’m thinking of joining in, but I think I’d like some more encouragement from you *hint**wink**hint*
April 5th, 2009 at 8:02 am
@Spoony – Come on!!! Almost everyone who knew Esca who also joined the previous challenges joined ;D Or do you mean you’d like me to name a prize? Those guys voted not to have one to keep this stuff non-competitive though XD
April 5th, 2009 at 8:21 am
@mai – no, no, I didn’t mean a prize. I meant your own singing!! Even though there are some really great singers, I think mai’s karaoke entries sound quite sweet. (Although I think you’re better at singing than you think) I think the male singers have also done a fantastic job too!
April 5th, 2009 at 8:48 am
@Spoony – Ahaha, sure, I’ll try something when I get home today
Just promise you’re also making one okay
April 5th, 2009 at 9:33 am
Oh my, the entries are good that I’m a little bit scared to hand my record ^^;; And I think that I’ll steer clear from Yubiwa, I butcher that song, and the Yubiwas that have been entered are all too good
I don’t know how to pull the ‘daite’ near the end of the song like you guys -_-;;
Great job, all of you, really~
@ KT: Aw, don’t be so modest… Yes, sometimes you sound a little bit shaky and the tempo is a little bit off. But I love your voice tone, and it’s suited the song well, good job!
@ Pippa: You said that you only recorded it once? …Not that I didn’t know this before, but it affirmed that you’re really talented <3
@ mai: thanks for making the karaokes~ I don’t know if I’ll use them much, since singing Maaya songs hurt my throat a bit… Yet seeing you make them made me a little motivated <3 Btw, I haven’t try to make the karaoke-ized ver of ‘If You’, and I think that I want to try singing it–is the end result that bad? I’ll do it acapella if that’s the case…
I definitely have to google how to higher the pitch, since some of the note in ‘If You’ is at my range borderline…..
April 5th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Thankyou everyone for listening to mine & all the talented ppl who took time to record their songs (btw they’re all GREAT!!!!)
@Aria: Yeah the tempo bit is actually my computer being silly….I tried fixing it but it didn’t work……grrrr, I gave up coz it wasn’t too off tempo (or maybe I was having delayed reactions…..does happen to me tho….~.~) I’ll attempt to fix my shaky voice one day…..>< But thankyou for pointing that out! Now hurry up and send your entry in!!!
April 5th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Yyrkoon – good job! Yubiwa is certainly not easy >_<VVV great!
Aria and Spoony you guys should definately join in, the more the merrier!!
Thanks Aria ^^;;; yeah it was one take, that’s why the first verse is a bit blah because I wasn’t too sure about it! I’m proud of the rest of it though
April 5th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Yyrkoon – I like it I like I like it!!! Very solid performance there!
April 5th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
@Aria – I think I tried to make a karaoke for If You, but I think most of the backing tracks also got removed… so I quit XD Adobe Audition can increase pitch, but it’s not free. I’m not sure if Audacity can do that. Anyone who knows?
April 5th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
@mai – Goldwave can. And the result is usually very good.
April 5th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
@ mai: thanks for the info mai
I’ll sing it acapella or pester my friend to accompany me with his guitar if he’s in a good mood…
@ Yyrkoon: thanks for the heads up on Goldwave
I’ll try to use it and try to sing with different pitches–though I might not use it at all (I’m pretty slow figuring out how to optimize an audio software) XD it might get handy in the future though :3 Have I told you I like your Yubiwa? Nice work there!
@ Pippa: You’re not sure about it? I can’t really catch it, though, you sound good from the beginning, but greater to the end
And I’ll join as soon as I can make peace with my moody throat and learn to sing Esca songs better
Some of them looks simple, but surprisingly hard to sing with the right pitches (Call Your Name is one of them indeed).
@ KT: haha, your sometimes-shaky voice is perceptible because I’m hearing it with my headphones–but I don’t think I can catch it if I’m using my laptop speaker, so no real worries there
Shaky voice can be easy yet tricky to fix–I’m not really over that problem too–but I have faith that you can do it
And yes, I’ll try to record as soon as I can find how to sing Esca songs without butchering the song… much
April 5th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
@Yy- This one?
http://www.goldwave.com/
I haven’t tried it myself, so I probably can’t help regarding it XD
April 6th, 2009 at 5:24 am
@mai: Yes, that’s the one, it’s a pretty simple freeware. You simply load a sound file then apply an effect then save
April 7th, 2009 at 10:41 am
@Yyrkoon: That was really great! A more quiet interpretation than what I’ve heard so far. More please
April 7th, 2009 at 10:42 am
@BluWacky – I have to say this, the song fits your voice so well, I love it. I actually cursed when I heard your voice, in a good way that is!
April 7th, 2009 at 11:34 am
@BluWacky – OMG. I am in awe! Loved the rendition! Brilliant singing!! And the range!!
April 7th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
@BluWacky: So. awesome. I agree with mai, the song fits your voice so amazingly well o.o I love this song – you did great on this! *claps* Did you struggle a bit on the higher notes? (Since I noted that you said the higher ones would be a bit high for guys)
Btw, what has happened to your blog? Haha I remember the good ol’ Fantastic Children days. (Not that I can say anything now, I haven’t watched any anime since Macross F wrapped.)
April 7th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
@ BluWacky: Aw, such a nice version of ‘If You’… Now, I’m embarrassed to give my version of it, haha.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
I struggled a LOT on the high notes. It’s not like I can sit here and belt them out (I have neighbours!) and it’s really really high – it goes up to a top B, which I could probably get properly if I were singing something loud. I’ve got a very high break in my voice before my falsetto really kicks in so although I can sing quite high I’m not very good at mixing my voices properly… god, that sounds wanky!
Thank you for the very nice comments! I probably can’t ever listen to it again, but there you go.
And the blog is back up and running again! I didn’t watch any anime for six months or so but I’m feeling refreshed again. I feel like a relic of a bygone era though, I don’t get any of the memes that the other bloggers use
April 7th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
OMG Bluwacky I was expected some good stuff but that surpassed even my expectations ^^VVV check you out!
April 7th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
@Aria don’t you feel like that!!! Once Spoony sends me an entry I’ll post one of mine, and I’m sure you guys won’t hesitate sending an entry to be posted beside mine XD
April 7th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
@ BluWacky: I understand that problem… I try to close my windows and doors so that my neighbours don’t hear it. Fortunately, I haven’t hear them don’t really complain about me not being able to control my voice (since they also sing–badly–at night, and I didn’t complain), but my family sometimes did
And I also understand about not being able to mix voices; it made it hard for me to sing large range songs without struggling or hurting my throat (i.e. some of Maaya’s song) *wince* …And I’ll stop my whining now.
@ mai: Haha, it’s not going to hinder me sending it, mai. And I’m easy to feel embarrassed, so er, don’t worry? XP Thanks for the concern, though. Regardless of that, my computer had an audio issue now–which usually fixed by itself tomorrow (don’t ask me how it could do that, or how it could be broken again sometime after I shut my computer down). So… Expect my entry two or three days from now, if I’m not busy :3
April 7th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Sounds great, I’ll wait for it!
April 7th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
OMG there goes another XD
Spoony’s voice is so cute and soothing
I’d be really happy if we get to sing all the songs from this animation. Anyone working on Mystic Eyes?
April 8th, 2009 at 7:12 am
@ mai: Yay for another!!! I’m planning to do I Recommend Instincts too, glad that I’m not the only one, haha.
@ Spoony: Your voice is so… soft
I haven’t seen Perfect World too… It’d be great if one of the boys could sing it
April 9th, 2009 at 7:41 am
@mai: I’m really impressed by your version of “I recommend instincts”! I’ll say it again – you’re a better singer than you think!!
@mai and Aria: Er.. I think the word you’re looking is more along the lines of “weak” or “feeble”? Haha.
April 9th, 2009 at 7:54 am
@Spoony – thanks ^__^;; But you can’t say that about me while saying that about yourself!!! XD
@all – hopechong’s Sora is up and it’s beautiful! I usually see her around in YKFan, and I’m glad someone there has sent an entry
April 9th, 2009 at 10:02 am
@Spoony: You’re right. It is feeble, but it works here. I’ll call it more fragile. It’s a song of questions, so yeah, a voice that’s unsure works very well. The tone is warm and the pitching doesn’t hurt me so yeah, good work!
@hopechong: That Sora was pretty awesome!! You got the voice and feel of the song down pat!
April 9th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
@mai Thanks for uploading my Sora. :3
I recorded it in a hurry last year before Christmas. One of my friends said he loves the song very much, so I sang it for him. That was precious memory.
Hmmmm I didn’t know you know about me from YKFan. lol
Well, yeah, YKFan is the place that I go to most often. I have a lot of friends there who enjoy singing. Maybe I’ll get some of them to participate in this challenge, too.
Nice to meet you all. ^^
@Maskerade Thank you! Your Yubima is awesome, too. I love the backing vocal you mixed in it. I’m really touched. ^____^
April 9th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
@ Spoony: It’s NOT, dear, really. Sorry for my inability to express my comment better before, but when I mean soft, I mean that you sung it softly, with a soft voice tone–which like Maskerade said with a much better eloquence than I did–it fitted the song well
Really, it’s a nice job
@ hopechong: Oh God, your Sora is VERY good. When I first heard the original Sora, it made me feel goosebumps–when I heard your Sora, it made me sigh pleasantly, and it also made me feel somewhat all warm and fuzzy inside <3 Love it~
April 9th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
@all – Aria’s If You, Yy’s Fatal are up! I love the way Aria does the “turn to rain…” part, and well Yy, YEAH!!!
@hopechong – yes, if others could join that would be great! I wish I knew Chinese so that I could ask them myself ^__^;;
April 9th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
@Aria: That’s a really lovely If You! Especially loved the bridge, sounds like a lullaby.
@Yy: What can I say? Pure awesomeness
April 9th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Thanks guys, really, I’m sincerely touched
April 9th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
@Hopechong – You ave a very cute voice, I like your Sora!
April 9th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
@all – Yy’s Perfect World is up!!!
EDIT – woohoo I get 100th comment!
April 10th, 2009 at 2:02 am
@all: so here I am being hopechong’s friend and just hopping over to say hi to everyone, you are all so amazing~
when hope-chan told me about this, she asked if I can put my Yubiwa up, but that was a really old one I sang about 5 years ago… then I was thinking about re-recording Yakusoku Wa Iranai before, so I did it tonight~
@mai: I just send the song ^_^
April 10th, 2009 at 2:16 am
@Aura – what, you just recorded this?! WOW!!! Thank you!!!
@all – Aura’s Yakusoku wa Iranai is up!!! And I guess this goes without saying, everyone, send more!!!
April 10th, 2009 at 7:05 am
@ Aura: Wow~ Love your voice tone, and love your energy <3
@ Yyrkoon: Yay for your Perfect World~
@ mai: Thanks mai, it’s my favorite part of the song, so I’m very happy when you said that you like it
@ Maskerade: Thank you for the lovely comment
I’m not sure what I should do with the bridge at first, so your comment made me feel relieved <3 Now that I think of it, I remember almost sleeping when I heard it myself–dunno if it’s because of fatigue or if the song really are a potent lullaby XP
April 10th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
@mai: I like your I recommend instincts!

I can’t do it, I butcher it too much, lol.
@Spoony: Your voice works really well with the song, like so many people have said ^^ I love it~
@Aria: Love your vibratto~ If You sounds wonderful though it sounds a bit weird with a vocal that’s very unlike Mai Yamane’s xD It works though! More plz? :]
@hopechong: OMG jaw-dropping awesomeness! That Sora was so beautiful! It’s the original! o_o It must be! Your voice. You need to send in more!
@Yyrkoon: LOL lovely Fatal! Must’ve been tiring though! And Perfect World is great
@Aura: Wonderful Yakusoku!
I’m still recovering from a cold so I don’t know when my voice will be fully back *sniffs* (Plus I don’t think it’s necessary since there are so many awesome singers! Guys, send in moreeeee so I can procrastinate on my work xD So many good entries this time around, I think this beats the Macross F challenge, though those have more variety of songs to choose from
)
April 11th, 2009 at 8:40 am
@ Naddie: Thank you~ Yeah, aside from obviously different voice tone, I sung in a higher pitch, so it just made the gap wider XP Glad that it worked for you
More? I have to try searching for other Esca songs that I won’t butcher much first XP You still haven’t recovered from your cold? *pat pat* Hope you get well soon, dear *hugs*
@ Yyrkoon: OMG, how can I miss commenting Fatal… Anyway, it’s awesome~ You really have it in control and the whistle was powerful till the end <3
I also think that this karaoke challenge is more awesome that Macross F’s–though the latter was also awesome too <3
April 11th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
We actually have half as much submissions as the previously concluded Macross F one, and we’re not halfway through the deadline
Send more guys!!!
April 11th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
@ Aria: LOL thank you ^^ Actually I recorded it really quickly, I removed the breath noise and added a lot of some reverb and here it was
I think anyone can do this pretty easily, and the whistle wasn’t that strong, it’s the normalize effect which gives that effect I think
@ mai: Concerning the Yakusoku wa iranai sung by the whole Yoko Kanno community, will it be after that contest?
April 11th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
@Yy – Hmmm, I’d like to do the Yakusoku wa Iranai group too, but who’s in? (and… I really don’t think I want to lead a project like that, I’ll be bugging everyone silly XD )
April 11th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@ Yyrkoon: Oooh… I have minimal knowledge of audio software, so I don’t really know how much that changes your raw recording–but I do know a friend that can’t make tunes out of his/her whistle (I forgot the gender of that certain friend), and I myself can’t control my whistle tune like you do. So… I still think that it’s awesome, LOL ;P
@ mai: The tempo of Yakusoku wa Iranai is too fast for me, but if you don’t mind me butchering the song then I’m in XP
April 11th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
You guys are talking about whistling – I can’t even do that
April 11th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I’d be interested in the Yakusoku bandwagon
But I don’t think I can organize it either xD
April 12th, 2009 at 12:46 am
ahhh!!!! Why can’t I open any of the songs. According to box.net, you are out of bandwidth?
April 12th, 2009 at 8:11 am
@all – apparently box.net is no longer free for new accounts and have limitations for old free accounts, so I had to upgrade my account. Well since it’s been very useful and non-problematic, I agreed to pay for it. Well let’s maximize the use of it now, shall we?
April 15th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
@all – Naddie’s Aoi Hitomi is up!!!
April 16th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
@ Naddie: You have a nice version of Aoi Hitomi~
Have you recovered from your flu?
April 16th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
@Aria: Thanks!
It’s not completely gone (I’ve still got some coughing problems, gah) but it’s okay now ^^
April 16th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Naddie: I like it
Still think you do better with faster songs though, but that was certainly enjoyable! It’s fantastic to hear you sing again!!
April 17th, 2009 at 8:28 am
@Maskerade: Thank you dear <33 And yeah I think I kinda suck at slow songs xD; And when are we hearing another of your entries now?
April 17th, 2009 at 11:35 am
@Naddie: Not suck, just insanely good at fast ones
And I have an idea of a song…. it’s hard though… but we’ll see
April 18th, 2009 at 10:37 am
@Maskerade: Lol thanks *thank God people can’t see anyone blushing through the internet*
Can’t wait for your entry
April 26th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
@all – fugue’s I recommend Instincts is up!
May 1st, 2009 at 10:20 am
@ fugue: yay for your entry~
May 5th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
@all: Maskerade’s Sora is up!!!
@Maskerade: Nice one!!! I love it! You put a lot of effort into this, I only wish you had a better mic so we could hear the rest of the harmonies just as well
May 5th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
@fugue: Another Instincts!
@Maskerade: Niceeee! There were some messy parts with the harmonies imho, but overall I loved the feel you’re going for
In other news: I’m officially DONE with university work! I’ll be graduating this year, hopefully, YAY! This also means more time to record songs! DOUBLE YAY!
May 5th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Congratulations, Naddie!!!
May 5th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
@Naddie: how do you have time to record? I’m graduating this year and I’m on my knees already T_T and I’ve still got five exams to go at the end of this month and next!
May 5th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
@mai: Thank you! ^^
@Pippa: Ahaha, I’m a bad, bad procrastinator
;; I always find time to sing when I’m at my busiest *whistles*
Oh God, exams D: Good luck! And cool, I didn’t know you were graduating this year, too! Aww, I guess this means no new entry from you?
May 6th, 2009 at 12:38 am
There was something in the works but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pull it out in time. Fingers crossed, eh?
May 6th, 2009 at 1:54 am
@Maskerade: Nice work! I’m fond of solo choirs! And yours is original, that makes it even more awesome than it already is
May 6th, 2009 at 7:36 am
@mai: Thanks! I wish I had a better mic too. And mixing equipment. So it wouldn’t sound so bad
But thanks again!
@Yyrkoon: Thanks! I had this idea for weeks, but yeah, turned out harder than I imagined. A lady’s voice would be better, but we make do
@Naddy: Twas very messy. Nearly drove me insane. This was my sixth recording, and the only one which I thought was the neatest. Thanks for the review though! Hoped you liked it
AND RECORD MORE!!!!!!
May 6th, 2009 at 9:03 am
oops, i forgot all about this
@Aria – TQ for the praise, but listening to it now, i wish i had re-recorded certain parts *eep eep!*
@Naddie, that’s great news! and was that you singing in Aoi Hitomi, cause it rivals MaayaS
@Maskerade, i enjoyed your recording as well, your Yubiwa is still the champ tho
May 7th, 2009 at 7:17 am
@ Maskerade: yeah, it’s would sound neater with mixing equipment. Nice work, though!
@ fugue: ahaha, yeah, I always want to re-record certain parts too after I listen to it the next day; but if I mind it too much, there’ll never be the final result because I’m easily dissatisfied with my recording X9
@ naddie: I’ll be waiting for your record
May 7th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
@all – Aria’s Hikari no Naka e is up!!!
May 8th, 2009 at 9:56 am
@Aria – *clap-clap-clap* there sure are a lot of birds chirping around you while you record, eh?
May 8th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
@ fugue: XD yeah, couldn’t help it; it’s no use to record on other rooms since the acoustic properties and background sounds are even worse.
May 8th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
@Aria: Gah what are you talking about you sound fine! o.o I didn’t spot any mistake at all? xD
May 8th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
@ Naddie: Hm, must be the effect of hearing it using headphones and being so familiar with my voice that I noticed immediately when I was a little bit off-pitch. Haha, thanks, it relieved me knowing that you can’t spot the er, pitchy moments X9
*was curious and listened to it again* Oh yeah, with the music and Maaya’s echoes on the background, it’s almost imperceptible
May 18th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
@all – Aria’s Yakusoku wa Iranai+Again is up, listen to it
Also, the deadline is coming up soon, so please send your entries this week!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
WHOA! great job, Aria!
May 18th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Aria, that sounds beautiful! ^^
May 19th, 2009 at 8:23 am
@ mai: Thanks for the promotion X3 hm… I hope my moody throat decides that it could sing something else this week D:
@ fugue & naddie: Aw, thank you <3
May 20th, 2009 at 3:29 am
Aria, nice performance!
Using Again as a background music was a great idea, the result is awesome!
May 20th, 2009 at 8:50 am
@ Yyrkoon: Thank you
I’m not really good at fast-paced music, and Again was my salvation for singing Yakusoku Nado Iranai X3
May 22nd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
[...] I’d like to remind everyone that today is the last day of the Escaflowne karaoke challenge, so please send it before May 22 ends all over the world (that’s tomorrow for me [...]
May 23rd, 2009 at 12:22 pm
@all – The final submission is by Yy, please listen to it!!!
May 23rd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Another nice karaoke challenge. I really enjoy the way you make that looks easy to sing a karaoke.
This time was certain to participate, but I did not like my voice in the version of Aoi Hitomi that I did, so I left it T___T
May 23rd, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Awww, I totally didn’t meet the last deadline, lol. This has been awesomely great
I guess we should all have a break before the next challenge
May 24th, 2009 at 7:41 am
@Naddie: Oooh, anyway, there’s still going to be a next challenge, hope you’ll join that too whatever it is. I think based on the previous poll, this should be Bebop.
@Saouri: I would have loved to hear it still, I bet it isn’t bad, you’re just too critical of your voice
May 25th, 2009 at 3:32 am
Not this challenge but I just looked and our Nico of the Macross Medley has over a 1,000 views
woo
I’m sad I didn’t get around to getting more into this challenge, I’m backed up with things I need to do T_T and with finals for the next two weeks I just didn’t get around to it. Sorrrrrryyy. But I’m just listening back to all you active people and there are so many good entries! Good job everyone!!!!!
amazing!!!
May 27th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Well, for the next challenge, if i know one of the song, i will try…
October 28th, 2009 at 3:16 am
04-10 Aura with Yakusoku wa Iranai – very nice.
I would be pleased to publish this one on the german fanpage vision of escaflowne
