May’n's New Single:
Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare

May’n will be keeping her ties to the anime world outside of Macross! Her new single entitled “Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare” will be the new OP to GONZO’s new animation Shangri-La.
Track List:
1. Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare
Lyrics: Yuuho Iwasato
Composition and Arrangement: Akimitsu Honma
2. M-Revolution
Lyrics: May’n
Composition and Arrangement: Akimitsu Honma
3. Kimi Shini Tamo Ukotonakare (without May’n)
4. M-Revolution (without May’n)
Kanno’s not here, but Yuuho Iwasato should be a familiar name
Still no details on how it sounds, however May’n mentions that she has just finished the photoshoot for the CD jacket, and the PV shoot will happen next week. I for one, am very interested on how this will sound.

Yuuho Iwasato? Who’s that?
But seriously, its a bit unfortunate she’s singing for a Gonzo show, Gonzo seems to cop a lot of flak from people. There is interesting criticism at riuva.com which is good for a laugh.
The storyline is about Tokyo being turned into a forest city to prevent global warming so I can hope there is a thought provoking ecological message like Arjuna but seeing its Gonzo I won’t hold my breath.
On the upside its almost certain that May’n OP will be better than Linebarrel’s OP. Three minutes of a dentist’s drill and nails across a blackboard would sound better than the Linebarrel OP.

I don’t know why I hope that this song will be like Soukyuu no Fafner’s OP, Shangri-la by angela. Maybe it is because of the name “Shangri-la” but the song title really gives me feelings about last paradise, blue sky and survive.
And I hope this single will have good sales and people won’t say that her mini-album was successful because of Lion. May’n really has the talent and her voice is very special.

Gonzo do get a lot of hate but it’s pretty much for a good reason, that being said I’ve been enjoying a lot of their shows lately. Seto no Hanayame and Druaga are two of the funniest shows (more so the former) I’ve seen in the last few years and some moments in Linebarrel were pretty lolzy too. Dragonaut was pure drivel though…
Anyway it seems that Shangri-la is Gonzo attempting to put out a quality anime, Range Murata designs are always going to get this compared to Last Exile which many consider to be Gonzo’s finest moment.
Hiroshi Ohnogi is doing series composition for this btw, he’s doing Birdy 2 atm which has been excellent and a massive improvement over the first season. He’s also doing Full Metal Alchemist 2 so I’ll say Shangri-la is in good hands… oh and he wrote episodes 17-24 of Macross Frontier as well as most of the original Macross..

@Kai: Yuuho wrote quite a large amount of Maaya Sakamoto songs, it used to be that Maaya-Yoko-Yuuho were the place to be. She’s a lyricist ^^

I didn’t realise she’d written Macross F songs though!

@ Pippa: I was actually joking because of how Mai mentions her. I’ve known of Yuuho since Mac Plus, I thought the “but seriously” would have made it clear that it was a joke

You’d be surprised how sarcasm doesn’t work on the internet XD typing just isn’t the same!

@Kai, Pippa, you guys are funny XD

Yuuho Iwasato is a writer and lyricist that works a lot with Yoko Kanno. She also used to write a lot of Maaya Sakamoto’s songs back in the day. She wrote “Northern Cross” (I think Yuuho said it’s supposed to be an answer song for “Platinum” by Maaya Sakamoto or something. I forgot.) for Macross Frontier. I don’t know if she did any others.

Naru, don’t mind the exchange between those two, I think they know Iwasato so much it hurts XD

Oops, I meant Esca not Mac Plus.
Hey, can we have a special “sacrcasm” font. A bad sense of humour and being brick thick just isn’t working for me.

@Kai, why are you dissing Gonzo? Yeah their recent works haven’t been top class, but they did do a lot of good shows too. Like Le Chevalier D’eon which was awesomely done.
Good thing that May’n is keeping her ties to the anime world, seems like she had a good enough welcome to keep going.
March 12th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
@keke You chose a really bad example of a good Gonzo show, because Le Chevalier D’eon was actually animated by Production IG.

oh, we get another May’n PV
Gonzo shows always start greatly animated/directed/produce/etc etc… then by episode 2 or 3, it starts to dip. geeze. I’ll still watch this, though. it seems interesting enough and with Range Murata on character designs, i hope it turns out decent. pls? >.<

Keke, for me that is the problem. Gonzo did do good stuff and still have the potential to make good stuff like some of their older shows (I’ve never heard anything bad about Last Exile). But the animation of recent series have been sloppy and storylines have rarely been a Gonzo strongpoint. Although I’d never say that Gonzo stinks I can’t say they are great either. With all that potential they still remain average (and recently dip below average too often for me).
In my defense my critcism is mild compared to other people I’ve read. And I’m still watching Linebarrels despite the horrible start to the series and that OP. I will not apologise for criticising that damn song.
I do hope they do a great job of Shangri-la. You can say “I told you so”

Jason, hmm, well it does say GONZO in the ending credits somewhere, so I guess they did something.

I’m not really impressed with the OP though it was a nice song. Hopefully, the full version will let me pass a better judgment.

LOL oh Japan can make an anime out of anything, even global warming
The song sounds okay but yeah, I’m waiting for the full version ’till I can fangirl or something xD
