CMYoko2 Review

Definitely for the collection!!! :D By the way, I failed to show a link of where this could be downloaded in iTunes, here it is.

It’s really hard to judge the value of a CM song disjoint from the advertisement it was made for, but let me say that a good number of songs in CMYoko2 definitely stand on their own. There is the rearrangement of The Beatles’ All You Need is Love for NTT Docomo, Success Road for Toyota Windom, Ubique for NEC, Blue Groovin’ for Master Card, Akai Taiyo… and you see I’m starting to enumerate virtually the songs one by one, so I’ll stop here.

My favorites are Akai Taiyo, Life is Dance, The Bento Song, Maria, Utsukushii Asu He Ikimasenka, Green, Wild Fight, Sougen, and World You Reached.

As you see I’m feeling lazy to review each and every track in this 30-piece album, but to sum it up, this album, as with CMYoko1, showcases the wide range of music that Kanno is capable of conjuring up to fit whatever is called for in a scenario. There’s a good mix of lively pop, soothing pop songs, calm and big band jazz, mellow instrumentals, chorales, and the usual quirky token songs ever present in any Kanno CD. The heaped serving of jazz in this might make you think you’re listening to a Bebop soundtrack.

All in all, I’d say this album is overall stronger than CMYoko(1). It reminds me of how crazy and varied and beautiful Song to Fly was. Can’t wait for the CD :)

Notable side notes: “Share” is the English, male version of the Yoshika song “Kimi no Naka de”, and “Sougen” is the House CM that sounds similar to the “Suki da” TV Drama theme.

And some samples of course:

I bought it on Wednesday morning, before going to work, so I listened to it in the subway, and then at work :D I really love the Bento song, the Share song (which was used in Camouflage I think), and I didn’t look at the songs names so I can’t tell for now my other favorite songs ^^.
But the chorale music reminds me a lot Memories’ musics (the track 2 I think), and I globally love every piano songs :p.

There are indeed really beautiful songs and musics.

Oh, and this chick is currently my new screen paper ^^.
