Anime Sheet Music Compilation: Anison! Sento Mode
EDIT: Hey guys, apparently, there are more than one compilation book in CDJ with Kanno’s stuff in it, but omo’s suggestion at the comments of this post should be the best source of the songs. I sent an email to CDJapan if they have that one, and if your preferred vendor is Amazon, please check it out.
This is the sheet music that might be more familiar to some people as the Yasashii Piano Solo Anison Series. I am still not sure who exactly arranged these pieces, but the Get9 and Tank! pieces should be interesting.

If you’re into this stuff and want Kanno, there is a better buy:

Yea I know you make money off CD Japan referrals, but I wish they had that book. Maybe someone can recommend it to them.

omo, do you know how to purchase from Amazon Japan? I’d like to know and teach others as well how to do that.
For now perhaps I could try emailing CD Japan if they have that one… but can’t help if they can’t right?

Amazon Japan works much like Amazon UK, Canada, US, etc. You can flip the interface into English if you click on the “see in English” link on the right, even if that doesn’t translate anything except the universal functions on the page. Once you put the item in the cart you can just check out normally. And Amazon Japan ship most books internationally.
I think CD Japan would carry that book if you ask them to, too. I never had to ask though.

omo, thanks for the tip, I emailed them, and I’ll try Amazon Japan sometime. I have never purchased anything from any Amazon store yet, but I have only heard good things from them too

I have that Kanno book omo mentioned. The arrangements aren’t thaaaat great I think (they’re a bit simple), and you can get almost all the other songs in a better arrangement in other books.
I have another “Anison” book, which has a lot of the Kanno ones up there but it’s a different publisher so the arrangements might be different.

Oh, and there’s a Cowboy Bebop piano book that just came out

Haven’t got that one yet, so don’t know what it’s like, but the publisher is KMP who usually do good arrangements (along with Yamaha).

@Spooony - thaaanks! Hey, you seem to be a pianist too, is it too simple, like no challenge at all? If you have a scan or photo, even just a low quality one for Northern Cross’s refrain, I think it would help me gauge if it’s too simple… please if you have time

I don’t know about the one in your blog post because I don’t have it, and I don’t know the publisher either.
Here’s my books:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/books.jpg
That’s (top left) Anison BEST by Yamaha, (bottom left) Macross F by Yamaha, (top right) Yoko Kanno book by Shinko and (bottom right) Macross F by Shinko.
The Yamaha books share some songs which have the same arrangements and the Shinko books also share songs with the same arrangements.
So.. for comparison purposes!
Shinko Macross F book has more songs, but are easier and tend to miss out things. It does have stickers though!
Yamaha Macross F book has fewer songs but are harder.
For mai - the Yamaha Macross F book doesn’t have a solo version of Northern Cross, but it has a piano accompaniment version. Shinko’s book does have a piano solo one.
Shinko: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/northern-cross-shinko-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/northern-cross-shinko-1.jpg
Yamaha: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/northern-cross-yamaha-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/northern-cross-yamaha-2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/northern-cross-yamaha-2.jpg
Iteza Gogo Kuji Don’t be Late - Shinko’s version has a very very short intro:
Shinko - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/iteza-shinko-1.jpg
Yamaha - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/spoonpuppet/iteza-yamaha-1.jpg
Hope that makes sense! So in general, if you want harder arrangements that stick more closely to the original, go for Yamaha or KMP published books.

Waaah! Thanks for those! It looks like the Yamaha one does have a better arrangement!!! Both books are not Kanno’s arrangement, but the Yamaha one looks more challenging.
Do I poke CDJ about that one? I’m feeling a bit lazy and shy, teehee XD

Sorry, made a couple of mistakes in that post!

Also, ordering from Amazon.co.jp is pretty straight forward if you’ve ordered from Amazon.com, .co.uk, whatever, as omo said. The only thing is that the delivery can easily double the cost if you don’t live in East Asia or North America (like me *cry*). On the other hand I’ve ordered some books from YesAsia.com who have free international delivery. Both sites have been very quick for me.

If I understand correctly, here are some links to the scores mentioned in the comments above, on Amazon.co.jp. I collect them here for my own reference, and to hopefully help others find the sheet music they want.

I’m not sure if the following piano scores for Maaya Sakamoto include music by Yoko Kanno. Any suggestions on how to find out? Besides ordering them, that is.

And some non-sheet music items:
Toshihiro Kawamoto Cowboy Bebop Illustrations
(These are paintings, not sheet music, but it kept coming up in “Customers who bought this have also bought…” on Amazon, so I wanted to see what it was.)

Knocking on Heaven’s Door Movie Companion book
(Also not sheet music, but apparently it discusses Yoko Kanno’s music a little bit, and has storyboards and printed dialogue from the Cowboy Bebop movie.)

Is that correct? Did I miss anything?

I have a quick question. I’m looking for some band scores for some of these songs — specifically Sorairo Days. This song is just a piano compilation isn’t it? Or does it have full band scores to some of the songs?
Either way — does anyone know a place to grab the full band score for something like Sorairo Days?
March 27th, 2009 at 12:06 am
They’re just piano arrangements.
