Macross F Movie New Songs Confirmed (updated)
UPDATE: According to COMA, the new song is entitled “Souda yo (trans: It is so.)”

It’s a pretty slow month for this community, no news from anywhere, but we’re anticipating new live performance releases, CMYoko 2(?), and the Macross F Movie. I recently found out that there is confirmation in Animage’s March 2009 issue that Sheryl and Ranka will have new songs for the movie, and they are Kanno’s compositions. Ranka’s song is entitled “Souda yo (trans: It is so.)”.
This should mean we get an OST 3

That’s great news…more macross F songs to look forward to. I was hoping they’ll have a new song or two for the movie so I’m happy they do.
Wah, I love Animage’s cover page…Seb & trap Ciel <3

YATTAAAAAA~!!! <3

I really want to hear a preview of the songs right now… but I suppose it’s too early to even ask for leaks, right?
February 13th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
ah, this made my day
now, i just hope that the movie isn’t a rehash of the tv series
February 13th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Well last I heard, the story will be in essence, the same as the one in the TV series. Only, there’s going to be more screen time for Klan, among other things. They can’t just rehash everything right? They should at least allot a bit of their sales to the movie.
BTW, Happy Valentines to all!!!
February 14th, 2009 at 1:46 am
“They can’t rehash everything right?” Famous last words. I hope Kawamori didn’t watch Rebuild of Evangelion and think “What a great idea”.
That said I’d watch it for the music alone.
February 14th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Kai: Whether it ends up like DYRL or Macross Plus (the movie version, versus the OVAs) is up to Kawamori. He’s gone both ways.
February 14th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Haha, should I be shot by saying that I’m only looking forward to the movie’s OST, not the movie? Because I have a feeling that it’ll be like another Escaflowne movie - 26 episodes mowed into a one & half hour movie. But then again I may be proven wrong
February 14th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Then they will have to shoot both of us, I feel the same way Naddie.
Btw, the Esca movie wasn’t too bad in the sense they created an alternate Gaia from the series. No where near as good as the series but at least they tried. The RahXephon movie was a rehash and the bit I liked the most was Maaya’s “tune the rainbow”.
February 14th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
@Kai: True, the movie wasn’t exactly a recap of 26 episodes, so they get some points for at least trying. Oh, I forgot that “tune the rainbow” was from the RahXephon movie! Lol. I really love that song - have to agree that that’s the best thing to come out of the movie, haha.
I hope we’re proven wrong though, it’ll be great if the movie has some form of “continuation” from where we left off with the series, even if the first 45 minutes are mostly “recaps” told in different POVs. (Klan’s getting more exposure, huh?)
February 15th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I didn’t like the Escaflowne movie because the story went to fast. You didn’t feel for the characters like the TV series. Too much was going on for 1hr 30min.
DYRL I saw before SDF Macross. I thought both were good. DYRL was like Kawamori’s chance to go back and add/fix things from the original that he didn’t like. As long as Alto actually CHOOSES a girl by the end, I am fine with it.
February 15th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Kai, Naddie: DYRL and Macross Plus the Movie were both retellings of the same story, albeit with new animation on both (20 more minutes in the movie for Plus, the whole story was redone for DYRL). One was more of a direct retelling with new animation, while DYRL was basically the story ‘done over’ with Minmei made into less of a selfish bitch. But no, they didn’t do any ‘continuation’ of the story with either one, and the relationship choices were the same in both movies and series/OVA’s.
February 15th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I didn’t mind the Escaflowne movie too much, the only bit I didn’t like the was the final climax (weird, huh?) it was like they suddenly jumped from filling in the story for everyone then BOOM fighting time. That was a bit heavy but I did enjoy the storyline changes and the slightly more gross blood everywhere nonsense ^^;;
I wonder if they’ll change the character designs at all, not that it really needs re-designing. But don’t Kawamori movies generally tweak these things a little?
February 16th, 2009 at 2:37 am
My main problem with Esca movie was that Hitomi was moody and suicidal. I missed the original Hitomi.
I also saw DYRL before SDFM so I don’t mind any version of that storyline. I still love the whole end of DYRL and still prefer Mac Plus ova.
Anyone care to make a bet? My money is on Alto still not choosing although I’d love to see him choose Nanase or Klan just because it would drive everyone nuts.
February 16th, 2009 at 9:00 am
@Kai - Alto probably won’t choose cuz’ he didn’t in the TV series. Plus if he did, there would be backlash on which ever side lost. That may hurt sales. I do have a feeling that Alto’s character will be changed and/or developed more rather than focusing on the singers/Sheryl & Ranka. Kawamori isn’t Hideaki Anno, he doesn’t mess with the story to annoy fans. I hope Sakamoto Maaya does a song again ;__; (I only got excited/watched MacrossF when I heard she was singing the theme song ^^;)
February 16th, 2009 at 9:01 am
My bet also is that he doesn’t choose. I don’t mind if they rehash the story, I have my wishlist though:
Alto in drag within the story line and not just a flashback.
Lots of new concert footage for Sheryl and Ranka.
Song battles, lots of them.
Sheryl in Valk, fail or not.
See I don’t care much for the story, I just want them to continue the Macross F…anservice XD
February 16th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
@mai: “Song battles, lots of them.”
OMG YES. I second this SFM. And I also second the Maaya tie-in xD
(OT: Those Ranka & Sheryl tea cups look great… - err, the separate ones, not the fanservice-y ones :P)
February 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
What’s wrong with the fan service ones?
I think Ranka’s ribbon is a bit too much though. Sheryl’s earrings would be cool if I saw one that didn’t look cheap.
“Song battles, lots of them.” How about “Macross Frontier: The Musical” And the climax is a dating gameshow where the audience chooses for Alto depending on how Sheryl and Ranka sing, then Ranshe (voiced by Maaya of course), who is resurrected by Grace, comes and beats both of them winning the singoff with a song written and performed by Maaya. Ranshe becomes the Vajra queen and Alto becomes her serving wench and is forced to wear a kimono all the time.
Potential fanfic here.

@Naddie - I sure hope Maaya also gets a line or two in the animation, if not a new song. The new song might be a little too far-fetched, but here’s to hoping.
@Kai - Hmmm, evil Grace is evil! I was expecting her to be Sharon Apple, would have been awesome, and she herself could have sang :\ They lacked Mac+ references in the animation.
And guys, something crazy. At Neowing (they don’t sell it in CDJapan…) has the FULL Ranka costume: wig, barettes, microphone, SHOES and all that:
http://www.neowing.co.jp/goods/goods_detail.html?KEY=NEOGDS-4568
$480 USD. And all sizes are sold out. Oh the crazy fanbase.

I hope the macross movie ,can have a ending of alto finally choose the girls he love, and i hope this time we can have a combination of macross, macross plus or macross 7 charater in this movie.cause this is the 25 aniversary of macross, which they should included it in the movie then it will be great. The song will be more sensational and upbeat.i hope to hear more news about it.
February 23rd, 2009 at 2:02 am
Mai you didn’t precise this song will be sung by Megumi (T_T) :
ランカ・リー=中島愛「そうだよ」などの新曲も登場
I hope “nado” means there will be others :D.
February 23rd, 2009 at 5:41 am
Macross Itasha in the lauching ceremony, shows an image with another date for the movie.

Some knows more about it?
February 23rd, 2009 at 9:07 am
@Yy - I thought it was understood that if it’s Ranka’s song, it’s Megumi’s too XD
@Saouri - I’ll do some research, maybe they moved the date or something, I’ll check it out…
