May’n☆Street Review (Lion, May’n☆Space)
Well, Lion sounds like Lion, just without Megumi singing. It sounds good if you ask me, but if you’ve been used to the May’n and Megumi tandem, you might miss her cute little voice that complements May’n’s very nicely in this song.
May’n☆Space kinda reminds me of a less grand, more jarring, and poppy “Welcome to My Fanclub’s Night”. The song starts with a lot of synth and electronic guitars, the verses are laced with violins, the chorus is very perky, and the bridge has a guitar solo in it. The second verse has a chorus of singers that sound like drunk fans cheering by spelling “M-A-Y, M-A-Y, M-A-Y-N, MAY’N! M-A-Y, N-S-P, A-C-E, MAY’N SPACE!”. To be honest, it sounds like a trainwreck, but it’s the kind of catchy trainwreck that I couldn’t help feeling happy listening to it. It sounds like something Ranka would sing to make people say “Deculture!!!”. It really does.
And here’s the requisite short low-quality sample:
DECULTURE!!! Haha
The rest of the CD is what you’d expect from May’n, that’s a promise. It’s got a pop songs you can dance to (Kiss o Choudai), a pop rock song (Why?), and pop ballads that showcase her voice (BLUE, Glorious Heart, Iya Iya), though none of them use her lower register which I like better than her higher register.
My favorites would have to be the Iya Iya for the ballads, and Kiss o Choudai for the upbeat ones. Iya Iya is one of the songs in which May’n is responsible for the lyrics and music, and I’m impressed

With only 7 songs i found the CD a tad short but for the most part it is a nice one to have if you are a fan of May’n.
Personally for me i LOVE Why?, i love these catchy poppy jpop songs & this is no exception. It kinda reminds me of a May’n version of Megumi’s Seikan Hitoukan (or whatever the spelling is :P). Another thing about the song is since i’m a huge fan of Roxette, this song is something they would do. Bubblegum pop at its best.
As for May’n Space, it would be a decent song without the ‘drunken’ chorus or have at least actual background singers doing it cause i feel it is out of place.
Anyways overall i liked the songs. Man i miss Macross F already T__T

Lion is still my favorite song on the track. The chorus felt awkward the first time listening to it, but after a while I got use to it. I wonder now if we’ll get a Megumi/Ranka only version
Glorious Heart would probably be my next favorite. It somewhat reminds me of Diamond Crevasse. Iya, Iya was also good, along the same lines as Glorious Heart. BLUE sounded like Yousei.
Kiss wo Choudai and WHY? were just average for me. Nothing too noticeable or spectacular that struck me.
May’n☆Space has a great instrumental, but terrible lyrics/synching. I don’t understand how you could mess up this bad, especially if it’s the lead track.
I was hoping for a track like Northern Cross, but I guess not. I really want to see her do another song like that.

I’m agree
I don’t like may’n space
sounds like a typical japanese idol-pop song, and I don’t like that kind of songs
The best song is iya iya
is very nice and sounds “soft”, the music and mayn’s voice
and also like blue, but only the chorus, ’cause the verses sounds like another song

I love reading your reviews!
Her lower voice (like in Diamond Crevasse) is the main reason why I loved May’n’s songs. I think Iya Iya is the best song for me. I listened to it straight for 6 hours. Imagine that XD I heard she wrote that song too. That little song saved the whole album for me.

@Mei - thanks, I don’t think I’m the best reviewer but I still try XD I like Iya Iya, because I think it’s simple, and May’n wrote this one for her voice (she knows her own voice
)
