Cowboy Bebop Movie Announced by Sunrise

UPDATE (April 15, 2011): Sad to say, it looks like the plans are in stagnation.
UPDATE (October 29, 2010): A recent broadcast of ANNCast included an interview with Executive Producer of the Bebop movie, Joshua Long, during which he was asked about the progress and particulars of the movie. Listen to the broadcast here. Skip to 23 minutes to listen to the Bebop movie-related part, and skip to 1 hour in to listen to questions thrown to him via twitter, the very first of which is the possibility of Kanno’s works appearing in the movie. It appears that the general notion that Bebop should still be jazz, Kanno or not, is echoed in his interview, yet it would be a good call to keep Tank! or any version of it for the OP. So we sit tight and see if the live action movie progresses to the big screen ;)

This piece of news still remains unrelated to Kanno, but it has been announced that several original Japanese staff will be working on the live action film, including one of my favorite anime directors, Shinichiro Watanabe. Quoting Anime News Network, “The associate producers are Sunrise President Kenji Uchida, the original Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe, and the original series script supervisor Keiko Nobumoto. The Sunrise studio itself and Masahiko Minami (former Sunrise producer and BONES studio co-founder) are both acting as production consultants.”

I feel like I can have a breather :) Now tell us who’s doing the music… Even just the BGM. I’m pretty sure they’ll have a stellar cast for the vocals ;)

OMG OMG OMG!!! Now I shouldn’t hate it anymore <3~!!!

I think we’ll finally have a decent anime based live action… And being it Bebop… Wonderful!

Okay I’m kind of feeling more optimistic… but Keanu is still playing Spike, yes? I hope this turns out well, I really do! And I somehow wish Kanno is involved, but we’ll see.

Yes, Keanu is still Spike :P

good news if they ask help to the original creators (especially watanabe)
for the music … how could they begin the movie without Tank! ? the original or a least a cover
i really hope they will hire YK because IMO her music is the sixth character of the serie

  5. mai Says:

I’d like Kanno to work too, even if it’s just a few pieces. Or a cover of her work, that would be great too :)

  6. Haesslich Says:

‘consultant’ = ‘people paid off to say good things about a movie’. Remember how the Sci-Fi version of “A Tale of Earthsea” turned out…

  7. Naru Says:

Didn’t they say something like this like 5 years ago abot Evangelion? It’s cool, but I’m not optimistic….

  8. PerdeskiCloyn Says:

Yeah, suddenly it seems the movie won’t be completely awful! Watanabe is involved, he has a direct line to Kanno so her being involved is definitely a possibility now. Keep your fingers crossed.
